How Can I Make My Bathroom More Eco-Friendly ?

Share

People are in and out of their bathrooms multiple times every day for numerous reasons. It comes as no surprise that the bathroom is among the rooms in the house with the most wastage.

If you are keen on sustainability, beating yourself up over the inefficiencies in your bathroom won’t get you very far. Instead, try and identify small changes you can make every day to help you run a more sustainable bathroom.

Here, read up on four simple things you can do to make your bathroom more eco-friendly.

1. Organic Makeup

The cosmetic industry has not been left behind when it comes to sustainability. One of the more noticeable trends is that makeup shelves now have good-quality vegan and organic makeup.

Organic makeup is made from natural ingredients, providing a welcome break from makeup lines created with chemicals that can be harsh on the skin and the environment.

2. Environment-friendly Bathroom Products

Makeup is just a start to some changes you can make in your bathroom. Another thing you can do is opt to always purchase eco-friendly product choices.

You can now buy good quality, comfortable tissue paper made from recyclable paper. Recycling ensures a product is used several times before ending up in landfills. If you can get biodegradable tissue paper, even better. If you don’t have the budget to do it right away, you can still get bad credit loans in Newfoundland to make your bathroom more environmentally friendly.

Regular sanitary towels take 500 to 800 years to break down once they are disposed of. You can pick biodegradable sanitary towels as a replacement.

3. Minimize Shower Time

You will be surprised at the difference between how much time you need to get cleaned up and how much time you actually end up spending in the shower.

Over time, try and only stay in the shower only for as long as is necessary, especially when the shower is running.  Think about making smaller water savings as well, like using a cup to brush your teeth instead of having the faucet running the entire time. In essence, this should help you save water, and by extension, lower your water bills.

4. Use A Low-Flow Showerhead

If shortening your bath time seems like an uphill task, changing your showerhead can be a viable option.

A typical showerhead uses 80 gallons of water for a standard 10-minute long shower. It also expels 4 lbs of CO2. Using a low-flow showerhead can help save as much as 20% of the typical water consumption.

The good thing is that technology has allowed manufacturers to build low-flow showerheads that maintain good water pressure as well.

While many people have the will to do better when it comes to sustainability matters, the majority tend to procrastinate on getting started. The best way to go about this is to identify a few actionable ways to be more sustainable and implement them immediately.
