Make Sure Your Space is Light and Inviting

If you think about a country kitchen, you’ll likely envision a dark and cosy space, with rustic beams, wooden floors and small windows. Yet, if you truly want to create an inviting space, you must embrace the light.

A clean, bright space will look good no matter whether you’ve chosen a more modern or traditional style. It won’t date and will go with everything.

Embrace More Traditional Part of Your Existing Kitchen

If your kitchen already has original stone tiles or wooden beams – why change them? Practical, modern touches such as a range cooker and clever storage solutions will sit perfectly among these existing pieces.

If you are keeping these original pieces, you must keep in mind the condition. Check that oak beams and wood flooring are in the best condition and take time to repair or replace any damaged pieces. This is vital as this will form the basis of the rest of your space.

Introduce Pops of Colour

Another big trend that has modernised the country kitchen is coloured units and cupboards, especially in shades of blue, green and grey. It’s a great way to create a statement.

Invest in a Larger Cabinet

To create an instant country kitchen feel, a great choice is a large antique cabinet or dresser. Whilst they are beautiful to look at, they’ll also provide you with practical storage space.

What’s more, if the dresser you invest in has glass panels, it’ll give you a place to store antique collectables for an extra pop of country charm.

Choose the Right Worktop

Choosing the right worktop is vitally important, as it takes up so much of your space.

Popular choices include stone and wood.

If you do prefer a stone worktop, avoid any finishes that are too bold or shiny, as it will not likely fit in with the overall classic, rustic feel of your kitchen.

A matte red, brown or cream will blend excellently, especially as opposed to a high-shine black. Man-made materials can also be an excellent choice, thanks to their added durability, but they will also cost more.

A wooden worktop is a much more common choice for a classic, country kitchen.

As a material, wood will require a little more work and up-keep – spillages must be cleaned up quickly and wood should be oiled regularly to keep it looking its best.

Though compared to stone, wood will simply need sanding and polishing and any scratches and dents will be gone.

Don’t feel like you have to choose one or the other though, materials wise. Try mixing finishes and materials to inject style and personality into your space. Make it your own!

Use Traditional Materials

To achieve an authentic traditional feel, the right choice of materials is vital. Natural materials should be your first choice.

Choose natural wood finishes or opt for heritage colours such as sage green, duck egg blue and grey. A simple, clean design with the perfect traditional finish will make all the difference.

What’s more, pair this with mouldings and other furniture details and your space will look excellent.

Make Sure Your Worktop and Sink Complements Each Other

Another country kitchen staple is the Belfast sink. Though, don’t think this is your only option. Composite sinks can also be an excellent choice, as they are hardwearing and scratch and stain-resistant.

You’ll also have a wide choice of colours when choosing a composite sink, so can choose the perfect one for your space. A sink that fits in with the rest of your kitchen perfectly will give a high-end look, no matter how much it costs.

Traditional Appliances

Commonplace in country kitchens is the range of cooker. They look the part, give off warmth that adds to the cosy stereotype and they also have a larger cooking capacity than most normal cookers.

They may be on the pricier side, but if you have a larger family or like to entertain, they can be an excellent investment. They also look brilliant, which can be a reason on its own to consider one.

Choose Hardwearing Flooring

The kitchen is by far the busiest room in the house, so of course, the flooring you choose has to be hardwearing. Luckily, you will have a lot of options to choose from, that’ll stand up to a lot. Wooden floorboards are a popular choice, as are reclaimed tiles and natural flagstones.

Display Your Utensils

In a traditional country kitchen, nothing would have been neatly put away in smart storage solutions. Whatever you use daily, like pots and pans, be proud of them! Store them in a hanging solution above your hob.

Then, they are easily to hand when you need them and they make an excellent focal point.

Hanging oven gloves, tea towels and aprons from hooks can also look great.

Add a Touch of Scent

Sometimes, the scent of your room can make the space. If you don’t believe us, think about how homely and inviting the scent of cookies or other fresh baking makes a home feel. Pick up some scented candles and they’ll work beautifully in any country kitchen space.

Take our tips on board and before you know it, you’ll be the proud owner of a beautifully classic country kitchen that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.
