HVAC System Homecare Tips for Summer — Every season has its own charm. As for summer, it is considered to be the best time to relax with your family.

It is the season to travel to the beach or somewhere else or to have a barbeque party just in your backyard. The warm weather and the sunshine bring joy to all, and the sun that refuses to set casts its own magic radiates over this time of year.

However, longer and hotter days are also noted during this season. Temperature can surprisingly surge above 30° C. And this is, for most of us, the downside of summer. So to have a comfortable summer, an efficiently centralised air conditioning is very important.

The thing is, you do not want to be fixing your HVAC during a humid day because something just went wrong. And to help you enjoy all the fun summer has to offer with your oh-so-fine HVAC, here are some homecare tips that you should be noted.

Homecare Tips to Prepare Your HVAC System for Summer

  1. Check or Change Your Air Filters

When your air filter is dirty, it will restrict the airflow of your air conditioning and in the result, it will have to exert extra heavy work to cool your space. The general rule is you have to regularly check your filter, and if it is dirty, you can try to clean or even replace them.

Depending on the usage, you should check your filters every two months. This is also an effective way to maintain your system so it can last longer and it can also reduce your electric bills.

  1. Adjust the Thermostat by no more than Five Degrees

Many believe that if you are away, you should turn your air conditioning off. Modern HVAC similar to Trane dealer systems are designed to run regularly. When it is not used for a long period of time, it will be prone to accumulation of moisture which is equal to mould development.

It can also shorten the lifespan of your system. You can set your thermostat by not more than five degrees above the average normal room temperature. Fortunately, there is already smart thermostat that automatically set the temperature depending on the need even when you are away.

  1. Maximise Airflow to your Outdoor HVAC Unit

Many people disregard this part of your unit. Remember that your outdoor part is as important as that of its counterpart inside your home. If the airflow of your system is restricted, you will not be able to maximise the performance of your system.

To prevent this, always look out for shrubs or anything that may grow or accumulate beside your outdoor unit. Moreover, do not try to cover it tightly so it will have room to breathe.

  1. Check You HVAC Unit for Signs of Leakage

Immediately contact an HVAC professional after you have noticed any sign of refrigerant leak. If this issue is not immediately addressed, this may cause more problems and additional expenses for your HVAC unit. You don’t want to return from a tiring travel to a damaged air conditioning, do you?

  1. Prepare For Storms and Bad Weather

Thunderstorms somehow occur naturally during summer. Although we cannot control nature, we can do something to minimise the risks it has.

For instance, if you have unsecured structures near your HVAC unit, it is a prudent decision to put them away before you go somewhere else. Remember to do whatever you can do to prevent any accidents that may damage your HVAC.

  1. Close and Lock all of Your Windows

Making sure that all windows are closed are very important to ensure the efficiency of your HVAC. You should lock these windows because some of them might open on their own because of wind.

  1. Close Curtains and Blinds

Closing the curtain and blinds is important to help regulate the temperature. Also, do not let direct sunlight on your thermostat because it will report inaccurate temperature to your air conditioning system. This will also result to more frequent engaging and disengaging of your HVAC.

  1. Open All Air Vents

Your system is made to maximise airflow. So make sure all vents in all the rooms, even those which are not always used, are open and unobstructed.

  1. Thoroughly Vacuum Your Home

Regularly vacuum your house especially when you just got home from a vacation because dust and other allergens can accumulate during the time that you’re out on a vacation. If you do it regularly, you can maintain the quality of the air in your house.

  1. Maintain Your Condenser

Your condenser is responsible for drawing the air outside and cool it before your system can pump it into your home to circulate. As you can observe, it is made to let air in and because of its design, it can attract other things that may clog your unit.

If you have a lot of trees and plants in your background, a lot of leaves can accumulate especially after the autumn season. So make sure that the surrounding is always clean to ensure the efficiency of your HVAC unit.
