Before Hitting the Road

Road trips will always give you stories and memories that will last forever. Whether those are good or bad stories and memories, that is almost entirely up to you and how you prepare for it. Here are a few things you should do before hitting the road.

Your Car and Trailer

Here are a few standard things to do and check before hooking your trailer up and driving.

  • Check batteries and bring spares
  • Clean out your RV water filter
  • Make sure your tires are trip ready
  • Make sure your trailer bathroom is trip ready
  • Check and clean all fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and vents
  • Clean the inside of your RV

Safety Precautions

The hope is that you and your family remain completely safe throughout your entire trip with no hiccups along the way. However, it is still best to prepare for the worst. So, go over standard safety precautions and emergency plans with all of your travel companions so everyone can know what to do if anything were to happen.

Plan Out Your Route

This may seem like an obvious one, but you would be surprised. Plan your trip before leaving. Spontaneity is fun but can often lead you into dangerous situations. So, know where you are going and when you will likely arrive there.

Know the Weather Conditions on Your Route

On travel days, be sure to look ahead at the weather along your route. So you can avoid storms, snow, and ice.

While On the Road

Now that you are ready to start driving. Here are a few things to keep in mind while on the road.

Snacks

Snacks for the whole family are a must. Traveling can get boring. It helps to have something to snack on along the way. Plus, if you bring them from the start, it can save a few stops.

Water

Drink water! Don’t be afraid to stop and use the restroom. Staying hydrated is way more important than shaving 30 minutes off your trip. Especially if you plan on hiking or doing any other physical activity once you arrive.

Stay Alert

Stay alert at all times. Driving a luxury trailer isn’t the same as driving your car to work every day. Don’t be afraid to switch drivers or pull over for a nap or energy drink if you need to. Your safety is the highest priority.

Enjoy the Drive

A road trip is all about the road. So, don’t forget to look around and enjoy the drive. Driving long distances can bring you some of the most breathtaking views before even getting to your destinations.

Northern Destinations

Speaking of destinations. If you plan on traveling on a northern route. Here are a couple of options you may want to consider.

Glacier National Park, Montana

With beautiful Rocky Mountain scenery, you won’t regret parking your trailer here for a few days.

Crown Villa RV Resort, Oregon

Oregan is gorgeous in the spring. The weather is crisp, and the landscape is gorgeous. The Crown Villa RV resort should definitely be on your list of northern stops.

Eastern Destinations

If you are more interested in traveling the east coast, here are a few options to consider.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park, South Carolina

Myrtle Beach comes alive every spring season. With plenty of car shows, restaurants, and mini-golf courses, your whole family will love a few days spent at this lovely travel park.

Camp Hatteras RV Resort and Campground, North Carolina

Further north in Camp Hatteras is a massive RV resort and campground. With plenty of luxurious amenities, this campsite is the perfect place to park your luxury travel trailer and enjoy a bit of glamping for the weekend.

Western Destinations

Here are a couple of great western destinations.

Zion West RV Park, Utah

With centralized access to plenty of scenic locations, Zion West RV Park is a great place to set up camp during your trip.

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina, California

Want to spend a weekend on the California coast? Look no further than this waterfront resort in Newport Beach.

Southern Destinations

Headed south this spring? Here are two places to keep in mind as you plan your route.

Andy Bowie Park, Texas

Placed right on an island near the Gulf of Mexico, this is the perfect tropical escape that is reachable by RV.

Bluewater Key, Florida

Do you want the classic crystal clear Florida Keys experience? Look no further than Bluewater Keys. It’s a great place to kick your feet up and relax before hitting the road again.

The Takeaway

Now that you know what to do before hitting the road and while on the road. Simply pick your destinations, make your route, and enjoy your ultimate Spring road trip!
