LED

There is a reason why LED lights are becoming increasingly popular and this is due to their considerable advantages. Perhaps its best-known advantage is the ability to last that long. The standard measure of this is that they will run for 50,000 hours, which is much longer than other options.

They also don’t require a lot of energy for the glow they can produce and they don’t overheat either. LED lights are a perfect option for your underwater lights, they are slightly more expensive than halogen lights, but this extra cost is more than reimbursable over its lifetime.

Discovered

Bare grease systems do not require any maintenance and are produced from the traditional type of bulbs that we have seen for a long time, with halogen bulbs being a popular choice, as are metal halide and mercury vapor bulbs. They can be used in any environment but lack the long-term qualities that can be produced with LED bulbs.

Covered

These are safer, but some have some major drawbacks. They are generally much more expensive but they do not offset that cost with increased light levels and can glow dimmer than an open light due to the barrier between it and water. Again, these lights lack the brightness, lifespan, and small power output of an LED light.

Lumen Values

A lumen is a unit measurement that measures the amount of visible light emitted by a source. The higher this number is, the brighter the light will be. It’s a key feature that companies will want to promote, but how many lumens you need may depend on what you’re using the light for and where.

The products we have reviewed here give you a significant amount of light and one of the key benefits of LED products is their ability to produce a large number of lumens with very low power consumption. However, lumens are an easy benchmark for you to know how much light you are going to receive.

Wattage has long been used by many as a measure of how bright a light will be, but two lights with the same wattage cannot always produce the same amount of light and therefore lumens are a better measure of itself.

Brightness

A whimper in water is not the same as a lightbulb on land since light cannot travel as far through the water as it does through air. The intensity of light you need may depend on a few key factors, such as the clarity of the water you are fishing in.

Also if you are hooking up a light on a hook then you won’t need a light that is as bright as other options, as this will just be acting as something that will give you a little more help in the water.

If you want to attract a lot of fish though then getting a light that is at least 800 lumens would be a good starting point, but many products offer 1,000 lumens of brightness or even 1,500 lumens. This will give you the best chance of attracting those fish.

Weight

When looking into getting an underwater fishing light you have to consider how big it is, how much it is going to weigh, and how easy it is going to be for you to carry around.

This depends on what type of fishing you are going to do and if you are on a boat, how big it is and what type of storage space you have. You don’t want to be left carrying something that is too heavy and is going to weigh you down.

Another consideration, however, with weight is that the fat side of the product can be quite light and since the bulbs have air in them they tend to be quite buoyant. Because of this, you want to make sure your light is down heavy if it is a light strip, otherwise, it might just float to the surface and not have the desired effect of drawing on the fish.

Waterproof

Although all blub are sealed and waterproof, the electrical components that surround them generally are not. With these marine products, everyone has that protection against water, so they are all waterproof to some extent.

It is important to make sure this is the case before purchasing any item, as buying an underwater lamp that is not waterproof would be completely useless.
