Should You Invest in a Solar Flood Light?

We will be covering some of the pros and cons of a solar floodlight so you can understand why you should or should not invest in a solar floodlight.

With that said, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of solar flood lights so you can decide whether you should invest in one or not.

Pros

Here are some of the advantages of a solar flood light and why you might want to invest in one.

Convenient

We’re quite sure that there are times when you’re outdoors where there is no electrical source nearby and you have nothing to power your light.

But with a solar floodlight, you will not have this worry because a solar floodlight is powered by solar energy and doesn’t require electricity.

It is good to use it for outdoor areas like gardens, backyards, or sheds. Additionally, a motion-activated solar floodlight is also extremely convenient because it brightens your porch without you turning on the light.

Sometimes we work or hang with friends until a later time and it can be quite hard to see things without your porch light. By using a motion-activated solar floodlight, it will turn on automatically when it senses movements.

Green Energy

Solar energy is a renewable source of energy and is unlike the typical energy source that has high carbon emissions.

By using a solar flood light, you are utilizing solar energy which can be replenished as long as the sun keeps rising and solar energy has no carbon emissions which lowers your carbon footprint too.

With the use of solar floodlight, you can also expect a reduction in your electricity bills because when you use a green energy source like solar energy, you will not be consuming any electricity.

Investing in a solar floodlight is a win-win situation because you lower your electricity bills and carbon footprint at the same time.

Good for Home Security

Sometimes when burglars invade a home, they cut off or unplug the cord of a typical light so they can’t be seen. But with a solar flood light, your home will be much safer and remains illuminated because there are no cords for the invaders to cut.

The illumination of the flood light also keeps your property bright and visible especially during nighttime hours, which increases the safety of your home.

Burglars are less likely to break into a well-illuminated home because they can be spotted easily. Remember, sneaky people, want to remain “invisible”, so with a solar flood light, they will become visible which reduces the chance of them breaking in.

Easy to Install and Low Maintenance

Another reason that you should invest in a solar flood light is that it’s usually very easy to install and once they are installed, there is little to no maintenance required.

Since a solar flood light doesn’t use electricity to function, it won’t have messy wirings that toughen the installation process. All you need to do is find a suitable location to set up the light and the solar panels.

After the installation, the only maintenance that needs to be carried out is the change of batteries every 5 to 7 years.

You might also want to have a look at the internal components when changing the batteries and clean them if they are dirty. Other than that, the solar flood light doesn’t require any troublesome maintenance.

Cons

Here are some of the disadvantages of a solar flood light and why you might not want to invest in one.

High Upfront Costs

The first and most common disadvantage about solar energy appliances is that they have a high upfront cost and a solar flood light is no exception.

They are more expensive than regular lights because of the solar panels and they are not the easiest appliance to find either. So if you have a tight budget then a solar flood light might not be the right investment for you.

Needs to Have Enough Sunlight

Another setback of solar flood light is that it is not suitable if where you’re staying doesn’t have enough sunlight.

Since solar flood lights rely on solar energy to function, you need to make sure that the solar panels collect sufficient sunlight to power the floodlight.

Conclusion

Despite the minor setbacks, it is safe to say that you should invest in a solar flood light because the pros far outweigh the cons. On a side note, you should consider investing in a solar outdoor fan to pair with your solar floodlight!
