One such sport that can help you stay fit is basketball. You will find people of all age groups playing the game whenever they get the time.

Although it is not possible for you to join a club to play basketball , especially if you are a busy executive, you can definitely turn your backyard into a basketball court.

When you decide to turn your backyard into your own private basketball court there are certain factors that you need to consider.

One of the most important factors to decide is whether you wish for the basket and the backboard to be either mounted or freestanding.

In this regard, you may have to discuss with the neighborhood municipality or association to check and see either type of basketball arrangement is prohibited.

Benefits of a Roof Mounted Basketball Hoop

If you take a look around at some of the homes in your neighborhood, you will notice that quite a few of them have their private basketball courts where their kids play during their leisure time. However, there will be some differences in their courts.

Apart from the size of their courts, one primary difference that you may notice is the way they have installed their basketball hoops. Some will have roof-mounted basketball hoops, and some will have basketball poles in their years.

Are you planning to install your own basketball hoop in your backyard? It will be a good idea to go for the wall-mounted option in such cases. There are several benefits to doing so. Some of these have been discussed below for your knowledge.

  • If you opt for a roof-mounted basketball hoop there will not be any possibility of your driveway getting blocked in any way. Imagine that you have installed the hoop on a pole.

The pole may easily block your driveway and prevent cars from either entering or leaving your property. This may prove to be a major problem in the long run.

  • Most of the kids and adults like to simply shoot baskets. If this is the case with you too, then it is wiser to go for roof mounted basketball hoops.

This will not prove to be of any disturbance to you in any way and roof-mounted ones will also give you the desired height to shoot the baskets properly. This will also help you learn the art of shooting baskets easily.

  • If you have a backyard that is landscaped and does not have sufficient flat surfaces, then it may be difficult for you to find a proper place where you can place the pole. In such matters, a roof-mounted basketball hoop will prove to be a better option.

Best Place to Put It

Once you have determined that you require a permanent roof mounted basketball hoop, then the next step for you is to determine the best part of your property where you can install the hoop.

One of the most common places to install the hoop is right above the garage doors. This is usually done so that the driveway works as a temporary basketball court.

However, you can also place the hoop either on the side of the building that faces the driveway or the side of a shed or the side of a balcony or a second-story deck.

If there are several options within your property, the best way to decide upon the right spot is to ask yourself where most of your errant shots will normally end up. Do not set up the hoop near gardens, neighboring properties, windows, and gutters.

Installing the wall-mounted basketball hoop requires proper planning and going through the instructions carefully. Before you even decide to start the installation of the hoop, make sure that you go through the instruction manual carefully.

One wrong step may ruin the entire setup. If you are planning to mount the hoop on your roof, make sure that you locate one of the roof studs. Before you decide to affix the backboard onto the roof, make sure that you measure the height of the rim from the ground level.

It is very important that you take every step to ensure proper installation of the basketball hoop so that you do not have to regret in any way in the long run and you can enjoy shooting the basket.
