How Can I Get Rid of My Old Couch for Free?

Wishing for it to disappear does not work as you have to accomplish this task yourself. Thanks to the internet, you can get access to plenty of resourceful information on ways to get rid of an old couch for free.

The effective and easiest way to dispose of a couch is to gather a few friends and associates to help you with the heavy lifting and get rid of the old sofa for free.

How Can I Get Rid of My Old Couch for Free?

If it is the time to say goodbye to your old couch, the most important thing is to do it in an environmentally friendly way. Always remember the three Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) when disposing of waste and old furniture.

Luckily, there are several free ways to dispose of a couch without paying the junk removal costs. Some of these ways include

  • Donating an old couch
  • Sell it online
  • Recycle
  • Leave it out for free
  • Give it to a friend or associate

Donating an Old Couch

If the couch is in a usable condition, dumping it at a landfill would be a huge waste. Instead, look for furniture donation services that accept old, damaged furniture. Donating it to a charity would be a great way to provide unprivileged people with basic things like a couch.

Fortunately, there are plenty of charities that take old furniture and give it to the less fortunate. A homeowner can donate a couch to organizations like Goodwill, Greendrop, or Furniture Bank. However, donating a busted couch will not be beneficial to anyone and the owner is better off disposing of it.

Sell it Online

Many homeowners look for used furniture to save money, therefore, selling an old couch online is the most efficient way to get rid of it while making some money. Use Craigslist, eBay, and Amazon, for that matter, for selling online an old couch with minor damage.

Recycle

Protect the planet and save Couch removal costs by recycling the couch, a win-win situation. If the couch is unusable and in pieces, dismantle it and use some of the parts for other purposes. For instance, the wood from the frame and cushion stuffing can be recycled and reused.

Leave Couch Outside for Free

Although this disposal method has many drawbacks attached to it, this is a convenient way to remove the couch. Leave it out in the driveway and people scavenging for free items will take it, saving you the cost of dumpster rental.

Give it to a Friend

No one would deny free stuff, therefore, ask friends, family members, or associates if they need an extra couch. Anyone who has moved to a new place can make use of the couch.

If friends and family members do not need an extra couch, post a free couch ad on Craigslist, eBay, or the local community paper. Besides offering for free, the old couch can be traded for something else.
