5 Telltale Signs of Mice in Your Home

Mice are nocturnal, so you may see evidence or droppings during daylight hours if you let the lights burn late at night.

But how can you tell if the culprit is a mouse, and how do you get rid of mice before they ruin your home? Keep reading to learn more about identifying mouse droppings and the signs of mice.

1. Mice Droppings

Mice droppings are small, dark pellets that are about the size of a grain of rice. These droppings are usually left near food sources, like in cupboards or pantries, or in areas where mice like to nest, like in closets, attics, and basements.

If you see mouse droppings in your home, it’s a good sign that you have a mouse problem and it is important to contact a pest control professional on this rodent control services page to get rid of the mice.

2. Gnawed Food Packages

One of the things that mice do that can be particularly troublesome is gnawing on food packages. Mice are attracted to food sources, so they will gnaw on food packages to get to the food inside.

This not only leaves your food vulnerable to contamination but can also lead to costly damage to your property. If you suspect that you have a mouse problem, it is important to take action immediately to mitigate the damage they can cause.

3. Mouse Nests

Mouse nests are usually made out of shredded paper or fabric, and are often found in small, hidden spaces like closets or behind appliances. If you find a mouse nest in your home, it’s likely that there are mice nearby.

To get rid of mice, you’ll need to find and seal up any holes or cracks that may be used to get into your home. You may also want to set out mouse traps or use mouse poison to kill the mice.

4. Scratching Noises

These rodents are adept at finding small openings to squeeze through, so even if you think your home is seal-tight, mice can still find a way in.

These sounds can be heard most clearly at night when everyone is trying to sleep. Mice are also known to make other noises such as squeaking, chewing, and running around.

5. Mysterious Holes in Walls or Floors

Mice like to gnaw on things and will leave small holes in areas they frequent in search of food or shelter. These holes are usually about the size of a dime or nickel, and they’re usually found in areas where mice are active.

Mice are very good at chewing through drywall and other materials to create small holes that they use to enter and exit your home. Or, they may create larger, more distinct holes if they’re trying to create a nesting area or escape route.

Don’t Ignore Signs of Mice

Mice might seem like harmless little creatures, but they can actually be a big problem in your home. If you see signs of mice, such as droppings or gnaw marks, don’t ignore them.

Call a pest control professional to get rid of these pesky mice. Found this article helpful? Check the rest of our blog posts now.
