Glass partitions and doors bring a gloss and style to virtually any interior, from minimalistic lofts to cozy country houses.

They help keep rooms brightly lit without artificial lighting, separate spaces into distinct zones to create an illusion of privacy, and, depending on the framing material and type and color of glass, add finishing touches to interior design projects executed in a particular style.

But you need to keep something in mind before drawing your floor plan and contacting a glass partition company.

Glass panels can be tough to keep clean.

With fingertip and stain-ridden partitions, even the most stylishly furnished living room will look shabby and untidy. Dirty partitions in offices, meanwhile, might cause your employees and business partners to perceive your company as unreliable and unprofessional.

Untidiness may also impact your mental health negatively. Recent studies show that clutter in our homes and workplaces elevates stress, makes us less productive, and aggravates unhealthy habits, such as indulging in junk food and binge-watching TV series.

In this article, we’ll give you five practical tips for keeping your partitioning systems squeaky clean.

5 Ways to Clean Glass Partitions Without Professional Services

1. Use a Mixture of Commercial and Homemade Glass Cleaners.

Using commercially available cleaning products like Windex, Method Glass Cleaner, and other solutions that contain ammonia and isopropyl alcohol is just what the doctor ordered for removing old dirt and grease.

However, you could take a more environmentally friendly approach and apply homemade solutions for routine glass wall cleaning. Vinegar, alcohol, baking soda, or a small amount of dish soap dissolved in water at room temperature can help remove dust, water stains, and fingerprints from glass panels.

Cleaning products containing natural ingredients, such as white vinegar, will help you clean cloudy glass sparkling shine.

2. Choose the Right Cleaning Cloth.

Microfiber cloth has proven to be the best material for cleaning glass doors and partitions. Made of polyamides and polyester, such cloth has several properties that make cleaning a piece of cake. First, the synthetic fiber gathers lint and dust.

Second, it is soft enough for delicate glass surfaces, which is specifically important for panels that have not been heat-toughened or laminated.

Finally, microfiber cloth absorbers your cleaning substance and water, be it a self-made solution or an off-the-shelf product, allowing you to spread the agent across the entire surface and wipe it clean afterward. For quick cleaning, you could also use squeegees, which are darn cheap and can be found at any supermarket.

3. Dust Your Partitioning Systems Regularly.

A surefire way to prevent dirt build-up on your partitioning systems is to dust them frequently — i.e., at least twice a week. While this might sound overwhelming, in reality, the task will hardly take you longer than ten minutes, as long as you use the right tools for that.

In addition to the above-mentioned microfiber cloth, which should be slightly damp for effective dusting, you could use specialized dust brushes — including electrostatically charged bristles, which are commonly advertised as “magic dust brushes,” and not without a reason: they tend to collect more dust than brushes made of natural materials.

If you seek to minimize the amount of dust getting on glass surfaces between cleanings, you can once again turn to home remedies — for instance, spraying your partitions with a solution containing one part of fabric softener and four parts of purified water.

After applying the solution to glass panels, you could use a good old microfiber cloth to dry the surfaces.

4. Clean Glass Partitions From the Top, and Frames First.

Glass wall amateurs typically choose between framed and frameless designs. The former are more resilient and functional, while the latter are style-agnostic and allow natural light to flow freely across your spaces.

Cleaning-wise, frameless constructions are less demanding, as the whole surface of the partitioning system, except tracks and door handles, is made of glass. Metal, wooden, or hardened plastic framing elements may collect more dust and grease, especially around the edges.

When cleaning glass dividers, you should always start with the framing elements; if you clean the glass first, you’ll inevitably mess it up again when tending to the frame. Similarly, it’s recommended to start from the top of the panel and gradually move to the bottom.

To prevent damage to the framing material during dusting, you should use the right cleaning solutions, too. For wooden and plastic frames, ordinary furniture polish or damp cloth work best. Metal constructions, on the other hand, are easiest to clean with dishwashing liquid mixed with distilled or purified water.

5. Aim for Streak-free Cleaning.

Lastly, let’s talk about streaks — those nasty little guys that only reveal themselves after you’ve cleaned the glass surfaces and set down to enjoy a well-deserved cup of coffee. The worst thing about streaks is that they occur even if you use soap-free cleaners and wipe partitions side to side and top to bottom.

To make sure your glass panels remain crystal clear, it’s recommended you dry the glass with a thin cloth after the main cleaning session and polish the surface using a dry paper towel.

Alternatively, use specialized wet wipes for finishing touches. Containing an alcohol-enriched formula, such wipes will make your partitions shiny and smudge-free.

If you’ve been googling “glass partitions near me” and found chilling stories about how difficult it is to keep glass walls clean, you can put your fears to bed.

Partitions are not only attractive, durable, and highly functional, but also require little maintenance. So, carry on your research and contact a reliable glazing company to give your interiors a futuristic overhaul!
