What Is Alkaline Water?

First, let’s go over what alkaline water is. You might have heard the word before but are not sure what it is. Alkaline refers to the pH level of the water. The pH level is what measures how acidic or how alkaline the water is.

Water that has a pH of 1 is very acidic and water with a pH of 13 means it is very alkaline. Alkaline water has a higher pH than normal drinking water. It is believed that this alkalinity neutralizes all of the acidity found in your body.

Normal drinking water that most of the world drinks are typically a neutral pH level of 7. Alkaline water from an alkaline water filter like the one found in this link typically has pH levels between 8 and 9.

Some research has found alkaline water to have a positive effect on bone resorption. Bone resorption is when old bone cells are broken down and then they are replaced with new bone cells. This means that when there are less bone resorption and more mineral density then it equates to better bone strength.

Another benefit of consuming alkaline water is that it helps those that deal with acid reflux. If you suffer from acid reflux for a long time it can cause damage and it can cause a disease called GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).

A study found that alkaline water with a pH level of 8.8 stops an enzyme that is connected to reflux disease.

Another benefit that people have found from drinking alkaline water is lower blood pressure and lower blood sugar.

There have been scientists in Shanghai that have found that three to six months of drinking alkaline water regularly it has lowered blood lipids, blood pressure, and blood sugar.

Another benefit we would like to add to this list is that high pH water reduces blood viscosity after exercising. This is great for those that exercise to reduce cardiovascular strain from dehydration.

Alkaline Diet

If you decide to make the switch to alkaline water instead of normal drinking water you might also be interested in the alkaline diet. This means your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables will go up and your protein intake will go down.

More than likely have a higher alkaline intake will lead to more magnesium in cells which in turn will help activate vitamin D.
