Best Projector Screen Buying Guide, What to Know Before You Buy

Which size should I choose? What is the benefit of a screen? What is the benefit of ALR projector screens ? Is it true that screens come in a variety of colors?

The purpose of this in-depth guide about projector screens is to help you truly understand the type of screen you’ll need to meet your needs so that you get the best product.

What to Know Before Buying a Projector Screen?

There are a few things to consider while looking for the best projector screen for your needs. What kind of projector do you have, how bright is the room, how big is the room, what kind of screen do you need, where are you going to install the screen, and, most importantly, what size theatre screen do you need?

1. Type Of Projector

What kind of projector do you buy have a big impact on what kind of screen you should get? The size of the projector’s lens will affect the size of the picture that can be projected.

2. The Lighting in The Room

Lighting is extremely important in determining the type of material your projection surface should be made of.

3. The Size of The Room

If you have additional space, you can arrange the seats so that people are more centered in front of the screen and the screen reflects more light.

If you have a small space with people spread out and seeing your projection surface from all directions, you’ll need a screen that projects less light so that everyone can see the images well. Your choice of material will have a significant impact on your audience.

Where Will You be Putting the Projector Screen?

This very important factor to consider before buying a projector screen. Will you be using it as a home theatre projector or is it going to be a backyard movie projector, or will you be using it for business presentations?

1. Ceiling Projector Screens

Ceiling mounted projector screens are screens that descend or hang from the ceiling, as the name implies. Ceiling screens are a great choice for both businesses and home theaters.

2. Wall Projector Screens

A projector screen that is permanently attached to the wall is known as a wall-mounted projector screen. These are best for home theater, business meetings, church, classroom, government facility, public presentation, etc.

3. Outdoor Screens

These screens are best if you want to have an outdoor pool party, birthdays, camping, or picnics, etc.

Types Of Screens

There are different types of screens and these are as follow:

1. Fixed Frame Projector Screens

The most prominent of all movie screens are Fixed Frame Projector Screens. These screens are usually found in the most stunning of home theatres, even though they can be used for commercial purposes.

These projector screens are so popular in-home theaters because they tend to last the longest.

2. Retractable Projector Screens

There are three types of retractable projector screens: motorized, manual, and floor raising.

3. Foldable Projector Screens

A foldable projector screen is the finest option if you only require a display once in a while. These screens are ideal for presentations and classes where the display is not always required.

Special Features

Some screens are built with unique features. These relate to a distinctive feature of a screen’s design that is used to either improve the projector’s performance or add to the screen’s utility. These premium features will help you elevate your home theatre experience.

Ambient Light Rejecting

Any light source other than your projector puts the image on your display surface at risk of being washed out. ALR projector screens have a surface that prevents ambient light from washing out a projected image.

They do this by employing microscopic sawtooth teeth to deflect the light away from the source. These screens are best used in a multipurpose or living room where daytime viewing is required but blackout curtains are not available.

Acoustically Transparent

Sound can travel through an acoustically transparent projection screen, allowing speakers to be positioned behind the screen, optimizing the viewing and listening experience. Using these screens, you will get a better sound experience along with the picture.

Rear Projection

The projector must be placed behind the screen when using rear projection. The surfaces of the rear projection are somewhat translucent.

Ultra-Short Throw

An Ultra Short Throw projector screen is made to improve the image from a laser TV or ultra-short-throw projector.

These projectors “throw” the image onto the screen from a relatively short distance using special wide-angle lenses and mirrors.

What Size Projector Screen Should I Get?

The size of the projector screen you should get is determined by the purpose. Some individuals desire the largest screen possible, while others choose a screen with the best size to distance ratio.

Projector Screen Size

Whoever says “size doesn’t matter” hasn’t seen the brilliance of a 4K 120-inch projection screen in their own house. The width and height of the screen will be limited by the dimensions of the wall on which it will be mounted.
