However, by avoiding these mistakes, you can create a more efficient and aesthetically pleasing home.

So, in order to have this, you must first know what can cause you not to have them and how to avoid them. Here are a few of the most common residential lighting mistakes and how to avoid them.

1. Having Bright and Harsh Glare

This can be a major problem in rooms with lots of windows or outdoor light fixtures. To avoid this, when installing residential lighting, you should choose types of lighting that have diffusers or frosted glass to diffuse light. Use blinds or curtains to control the amount of light coming into the room.

Another is to use track lighting or recessed lighting to direct the light where you want it without creating glare.

2. Not Creating a More Unified Look

The second most common mistake with interior lighting for homes is not creating a more unified look. This can be achieved by ensuring that all light fixtures are in the same style and finish. Another way to create a more unified look is to use a consistent color palette throughout.

For example, using all-white or all-black fixtures can create a cohesive look. repainting all of the trim and walls in the space can also help to create a more unified look.

3. Not Saving Energy With LED

Another common mistake is using traditional incandescent bulbs instead of more energy-efficient LEDs. LED or Light Emitting Diode lights use at least 25% less energy as compared to incandescent light bulbs.

LED lights also last 25 times longer as compared to incandescent light bulbs. So, switching up your incandescent bulbs to more efficient LED bulbs can help save you money. It can also save you the trouble of having your lights fixed and having to call the best emergency electricians.

4. Not Properly Mixing and Matching Fixtures

One of the most common residential lighting mistakes is not properly mixing and matching fixtures. This can result in a bland, boring space lacking personality. To avoid this mistake, be sure to mix and match different fixtures to create a more interesting and inviting space.

Pay attention to scale, proportion, and style when choosing the types of lighting you’ll be installing to ensure they work well together. With a little bit of effort, you can easily avoid this common mistake and create a space that is full of personality and style.

5. Unable to Utilize Natural Light

One of the most common residential lighting mistakes is not taking advantage of natural light. Windows are one of the best sources of lighting in a home, but often they are covered up or not used to their full potential.

To avoid this mistake, make sure to open up your curtains and blinds during the day to let in as much natural light as possible. It is also known to be a good source of Vitamin D when taken in at the right amount and right time of day, so this is also beneficial to your health.
