We often spend a good amount of time choosing the clothes we wear, right from loungewear and athleisure to formal dresses. Once we have our prized possessions on, the last thing you would want is them getting stained.

Even a single drop of wine or tomato ketchup getting on your tidy white shirt can be no less than a nightmare! It is, therefore, always important to be extra careful while you are wearing shirts you are protective about.

However, if the damage is already done, you have no option but to look for ways to get the nasty stains off your beloved shirt. Many people make the mistake of dumping the garment right into the washing machine as soon as it gets stained.

While you would definitely need to wash your shirt at the end of the day, it is important to cater to the stains before rinsing the shirt altogether.

There are many different ways in which you can deal with different types of stains on your shirt. Here are some of the most common and popular ways of cleaning stains off your shirt:

Removing Grass Stains

As weird as it sounds, grass does leave stains on your clothes that may be difficult to deal with. If you make up your mind for an impromptu game of football while wearing your office shirt, you are likely to encounter these stains as you get back home.

However, grass stains are not impossible to deal with. All you need to do is get some toothpaste to get the job done within a few minutes! Take a toothpaste (not a gel), squeeze it onto the stains on your shirt, and scrub it using a toothbrush.

This is all you need to do to get rid of grass stains from your shirt. As long as you do not delay the remedy, you will have a clean shirt to yourself after cleaning it this way.

Cleaning Blood Stains

Don’t get spooked out on reading the title! If you cut yourself accidentally or scratch yourself excessively, your shirt is likely to get affected by bloodstains. If not treated immediately, these stains tend to get really nasty after getting dry.

The best way to remove blood stains from your shirt is by using hydrogen peroxide. You can easily get the chemical from the first aid section of a pharmacy.

All you need to do is soak the stained section of your shirt in hydrogen peroxide and scrape the stains out using your nails or a butter knife.

Be gentle in your approach and you would be able to loosen the grip of the stains. After dealing with the stains, you can rinse off the shirt immediately to clean it completely.

If you do not have hydrogen peroxide at your disposal, you can dip the stained section of your shirt in a glass of soda/soft drink and let it stay so overnight. The next morning, you can wash the shirt normally to get rid of the stains.

Dealing With Collar Stains

If you wear a shirt on a frequent basis, it is likely to develop collar stains in the form of a ring around the collar.

This can occur due to hair products, body oil, body lotions, and a range of other substances. The next time you see stains on your collar, do not panic and look for a simple household solution.

The best way of dealing with collar stains is by using shampoo. All you need to do is pour some shampoo on the stained areas of your shirt, rub the collar, let the shampoo sit for around 30 minutes, and wash it off. This would help you clean your shirt of the unwanted collar stains without facing any hassles.

Getting Rid of Grease Spots

If you decide to cook for your family on a lovely Sunday, make sure you are prepared for some grease spots on your shirt.

Right from cooking the meal to eating it with your kids around, there are chances of your shirt getting stained with the greasy food, a sight extremely sorry to behold!

If you have a stained shirt with you, you can get rid of the grease spots with the help of some cornstarch. Without wasting any time, sprinkle cornstarch on the stained sections of your shirt and allow it to soak the grease up for a few minutes.

You can then gently brush the stains away and clean your garment within a few minutes.

However, you may have to repeat the process a few times if you use cornstarch for removing the grease from your shirt. If you want to get rid of the nastiest grease stains from your garment in a quick and hassle-free way, you can use WD-40 .

A can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product can help you get rid of grease spots in a single spray. All you need to do is spray the liquid, allow it to sit for a few minutes, and wipe it off using a brush. You would be amazed to see how quickly the stains would come off your shirt!

Cleaning Ink Stains

One really needs to have a bad day to have their ink pen leaked in their shirt’s pocket. This can get really irritating as the ink stains are really nasty. However, the issue is certainly not beyond repairs.

As soon as your shirt gets stained with ink, put a paper towel on the stain and let it soak as much ink as possible. This would prevent the ink from spreading to other parts of your shirt.

You can then take some standard rubbing alcohol and apply it to the stained section of your shirt. Wait for some time and wash the shirt with hot water to get rid of the ink.

It is important to note that you may not be able to get rid of the ink completely in the first wash. It may take a few washes before you have a neat and tidy shirt at your disposal.

The Final Word

These were some of the most noteworthy ways of dealing with different stains on your shirt. Although the key is to always be careful while you’re wearing your favorite shirt, most stains can be dealt with effectively using common household items.
