How much does it cost to furnish a house? Read on to get started.

Living Room

When it comes to furnishing a home, the living room is often the most expensive. Because more items go into a living room, you can expect to spend the most money furnishing this room.

You can create a budget for your living room, depending on how you spend your time. If the living room is where you plan to spend the most time, you might want to be more generous with the budget.

To furnish a standard living room, you might want to set aside between $2K-$3K. The biggest expense in the living room will be the couch.

Here’s a breakdown of all the other items you will need for your living room:

  • Sofa $1,800-$2,600
  • Coffee table: $120-$260
  • Area rug $200-$400
  • Lighting $130-$290

While these are the basic furniture pieces for a living room, there are other extras you can include, such as wall art, decorative pillows, mirrors, and a television.

Dining and Kitchen Room

When it comes to the dining room, you will need to budget for fewer items, such as a dining table, chairs, and accent accessories.

You will have to spend money on cooking accessories, a breakfast table and chairs, and even wall art for the kitchen.

Depending on how many places you need for your dining table, you can expect to spend between $1600 for a six-chair dining table.

You can expect to spend at least $180 on cooking utensils and $20 on a trash can for the kitchen. If you want more ideas on how to furnish a dining room, check out Easy Home Links.

Bedroom

After the living room, chances are you will spend a lot more time in your bedroom, which is why you want to make it as cozy as possible. For a standard bedroom, you will want to budget $1,000 to $3000.

The biggest expense will be the bed frame (optional $400 to $800) and the mattress, which can cost you anywhere between $300 to a couple thousand.

You will also have to set aside money for a nightstand or two, depending on how many you want.

Nightstands cost between $180 to $300 each, but if your bed is against the wall, you might only need one. If you need a dresser, you will also need to set aside between $200 to $650 for another one.

If you want to furnish all of the bedrooms in your house the same way, you will have to multiply that amount by the number of bedrooms.
