How Often Should You Mow Your Lawn

Knowing how often to mow your lawn can be tricky, but if you follow our basic lawn mowing ideas, you’ll be well on your way to a healthy lawn that looks fantastic.

Here’s a quick guide for you to know how often should you mow your lawn. Keep reading!

On Grass Type

It’s generally recommended that you mow your lawn about once a week. But that frequency can change based on what type of grass you have.

For example, if you have Bermuda grass, you may need to mow it more often than you would a lawn with fescue grass. If you have Kentucky bluegrass, you should mow it every 5-7 days.

The best way to determine how often to mow your lawn is to ask your local nursery or a lawn care professional. They’ll be able to give you specific recommendations for your grass type and lawn size.

Cool-Season Grass

The best frequency for mowing cool-season grasses is 1-2 times per week. Mowing more often than this will shorten the grass blades, which can lead to browning and an overall unhealthy lawn.

Mowing your lawn less often than 1-2 times per week will allow the grass blades to grow too long, which can cause thatch build-up and other problems.

Like bluegrass or fescue, you should mow it a little more frequently in the spring and fall. This is because the grass is growing more active during these seasons.

Warm-Season Grass

Warm-season grasses are grasses that are adapted to warmer climates. Grasses are those that grow best in temperatures between 75 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit. They are typically found in the southern United States.

Warm-season grasses go dormant in the winter and turn brown. They green up in the spring and summer when the weather is warm.

Like bermudagrass or zoysiagrass, you can wait a little longer between mowings. But during the hottest months of the year, you may need to mow more often to keep the grass from getting too tall.

The best time to mow warm-season grass is in the early morning or late evening when the temperature is cooler.

Learn How to Mow Your Lawn Today

You should mow your lawn when the grass is dry. How often you mow will depend on the type of grass, the time of year, and the amount of foot traffic on your lawn. In general, you should mow once a week.

This will ensure that your lawn is healthy and looks its best. If you have a busy schedule, you can hire home services to mow your lawn for you. By following this guide you can finally know how to mow your lawn. Start lawn care today!
