Their highly destructive nature prohibits you from leaving anything uncovered as they will eat everything such as leftovers, cables, furniture, and even damage your favorite clothes.

The problem with rats is that they reproduce rapidly, and you can have many rats in a week. They are estimated to give birth to up to 2000 babies in one year.

This will make your home messy and uncomfortable to live in. This article will outline how to make your home better and safer by eliminating rats.

Signs You Have Rats in Your Home

Rats are very cheeky and know how to hide in places around your room, making it difficult to notice their existence.

However, if you are cautious enough, you can notice. Here are some of the ways to know if your home contains rats.

Dropping and Smear

Rats leave behind their droppings and smear as they move around your house. If you notice some pellet-shaped slight dark dropping, know that your home has rats.

Footprints

If rats infest your home, you can notice by taking a look at segregated rooms or ceilings for small footprints. Rats always leave their footprints behind and a mark on their tail as they walk around.

Strange Smells and Sounds

Noticing the presence of rats is very easy. If you hear some scratching, squeaking, and rusting noises other than the normal ones, know that you have an unwelcome guest. You can also smell a strong smell of ammonia which rats give off.

Types of Damages that Rats can Cause in Your Home

Rats are small creatures but don’t be deceived by their size. They can cause significant damage both physically and healthily.

They carry pathogens that can cause disease to everybody living in your home. Some of the damages rats can cause include

  • The rats chew electrical wires increasing the risk of fire and electrocution.
  • Destroy papers, clothes, and books
  • Make noise which affects people’s sleep
  • Create nests below sinks, on the wall, and on other appliances

Eliminating Rats at Home

Getting rid of rats can be challenging, that is why it is best to call a rat control team to help you eliminate all the rats and other home parasites that may invade your home.

Otherwise, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that rats do not continue to invade your home. The following are some of the ways you can get rid of them.

Thorough Inspection

You must conduct a thorough inspection of the source of the rats. This includes checking around the house and outside. Look between cracks, drains, garage doors, or any other potential source.

Clean Up

After identifying the places, conduct a clean-up around the house and all potential rats’ hidden hideouts. In these ways, they will flee, trying to look for other places. Keep foods and trash closed bins.

Use Trapping or Natural Deterrent Methods

You can trap them, use the natural deterrent method, or both. Place the rat traps in convenient places where the rats pass often. Using deterrents such as black pepper can help keep the rats away from your home.

Conclusion

Using the above methods, you can keep rats away. You can also request a professional to help you identify and eliminate their sources. Don’t let them stay and multiply; get rid of them as soon as possible.
