If you’re a farmer, you likely know all post drivers and how useful they can be. You might wonder whether you should buy one new or second-hand, though.

You can find the best Redi drivers online , either new or used, but which one makes more sense for you? We’ll discuss how to make this decision in the following article.

What is a Post Driver?

Farmers often need to section off their land. When they do, it shows a clear delineation between their property and the property of someone else. This concept is the same as someone living in the suburbs who puts up a fence at their property line.

Post drivers, also sometimes called post pounders, are tools that a farmer or another individual uses to pound the posts into the ground that will form part of a fence. Each one comes with a heavy steel pipe that’s closed off at one end and has welded handles on either side. One person can use one, or operating one can also be a two-person operation.

Buying a New Post Driver

Farmers or anyone else needing a post driver will probably look at buying a brand-new one in the same way that they might consider buying a brand-new car. The best quality when it comes to buying brand-new is that the post driver is under warranty. You might not be able to say that about a used one if you go that route instead.

If you buy a new post driver, you can also feel confident that it’s in great shape. Since it has never been used before, you will not expect it to have any defects. That might not be true with a used one.

What About Buying a Used One?

A second-hand post driver might appeal to you because they’re often cheaper than buying a brand-new one. You can get a discount on a post driver that has been gently used, and maybe that’s an attractive concept if you don’t have a ton of money at the moment.

The potential downside is that the post driver might not be as effective if it was previously used, though. It also might not come with a warranty if anything goes wrong with it.

Which Option Makes More Sense for You?

If you’re buying farming equipment and you only have a shoestring budget with which to work, you might be okay with buying a used post-pounder. If you do, you should only go through a seller with an excellent industry reputation.

If you have enough money, buying new means the post driver should come with a warranty. That’s probably going to sound good to you.

With luck, you may be able to find a used post driver that still comes with a warranty, even if it’s only a limited one. That’s essentially the best of both worlds.

The choice usually comes down to how much money you have available and whether you’re ready to take a risk and buy some used equipment.
