In the 80s, when they were fantasizing about what the future would look like – they totally let the house out of the picture.

While they had hoverboards and robotic maids (Roombas?) in mind, they didn’t imagine automatically locking doors, a home climate you can control with the touch of a button, let alone Alexa and all the things she can do!

Smart Home Innovation The Devices, Trends and Technologies of the Future

All that to say, smart home innovation is an ever-growing field, that is getting us closer to living “in the year 3000 “. And Amazon – a business that started from home (ok, well garage) is engineering a lot of it. From smartwatches to smart thermostats, we’re exploring our favorite smart home devices below.

The Nest Thermostat

We all know we have to step up for the environment, but that doesn’t mean we want to be sweating or freezing in the comfort of our homes.

It’s hard to find the perfect spot with the thermostat where everyone is happy, without running up the electricity bill. And who has the time to program those old-school models for all the times they’re going to be out of the house? ‘

Nest thermostat changes all that! It’s programmable from an app on your phone, as well as from the device itself. It learns when you’re not home, and will give your air conditioning/heater a break, but make sure it’s back to a comfortable temperature by the time you and your family get home.

It also has suggestions on how you can make your electricity more earth-friendly. Nest home has a range of products, but their thermostat is something everyone can – and should(!) use.

Your utility bill will thank you.

Couches with Built-in Outlets

We’ve all laid on our couch in an uncomfortable position just so that we could use our phones without pulling the charger out of the wall.

But this smart furniture innovation fixes that issue. The base of the couch has a cord that can plug into an outlet and there’s essentially an extension cord leading to a discreet outlet on one of the arms of the couch.

That way you don’t have to twist your neck to be watching TikToks during those dreaded commercial breaks.

Smart Tv’s

A TV used to be able to play cable and DVDs or VHS, but that’s about it. Now you can do everything with your TV, including shop online! It’s like having your own wall-mounted iPad, just like you can find at https://www.simplidock.com/blogs/articles/10-ways-to-use-a-tablet-wall-mount-for-your-smart-home

You can even stream your at-home workouts on the same device you use to be a couch potato on later in the day. Talk about versatility!

The Smart Home Innovation Era

While we’re not quite at the point where our homes can make meals for us (a la Smart House), there are plenty of devices that can bring any home into the 21st century.

Whether you choose to harness that smart home innovation to keep track of your pets, your packages, or keep your home at the perfect temperature is up to you.
