Having a backyard swimming pool makes hot summer more bearable. If you’re considering adding your dream pool to your yard, the best time to start planning is now. Dallas pool builders have several design tips that help you get your ideas on the ground.

5 Tips for Building Your Dream Pool 1

1.  Evaluate Your Backyard

Before you begin designing your dream pool, consider the space it will occupy. Pools can fit into nearly any backyard, even small spaces. Think about the other backyard areas you want to keep – like grassy spots or gardens, and design your pool to fit with those elements.

Most communities have requirements like fences and surrounding concrete, so factor those in while planning where to put your pool.

2.  Materials Matter

Dream pools should have your favorite materials. The materials give pools personal aesthetics, so consider the tiles and stonework carefully. Once the pool is in the ground, it’s expensive to make changes.

Not every design element is timeless, but your dream pool will be in the ground for many years to come. Think about the durability, installation process, and cleaning procedures, as pools require significant maintenance to continue looking like new.

3.  What Color and Shape Do You Want?

Swimming pool colors range from classic blue to bright white and solid black. You can even design your pool in gray. The color you choose should compliment your home and yard. If you want more than a solid color, consider adding colorful tile in unexpected places, not just around the perimeter of the deck.

Homes with sharp angles and modern styling can be complemented by curvy pools, while a classic rectangle fits well with a traditional style home. When designing your pool, let your imagination guide you, but always keep the design of your home in mind.

4.  Eco-Friendly Design

Pools tend to be expensive ventures, not just to install, but to maintain. They have motors, heaters, chemicals, and a significant amount of concrete. Pool owners are drifting away from using chlorine to keep their water clean, and many are turning to energy-efficient motors.

When working with your pool builders, ask about how to reduce your pool’s footprint with salt water systems, solar heating, and other sustainable and environmentally friendly tools.

5.  Selling Your Home

When you design your dream pool, remember that you might want to sell your home someday. Pools already make homes more difficult to sell, and a highly customized pool can turn away potential buyers.

During the design process, think about how to make your pool a beautiful piece of artwork that other people can enjoy.

Remember that accessibility features are important, as people with disabilities or injuries appreciate being able to get into and out of pools. You can add wheelchair ramps or zero-entry features.

When it’s time to sell your home, having a pool with low-maintenance and accessibility features attracts more buyers. Your pool will have to follow local rules about diving boards and other safety features, or you’ll have to pay for costly changes before putting the for-sale sign in your yard.
