10 Tips to Organise Boxes for Moving

1. Do Not Over Pack Your Boxes

Do not over-pack your boxes. If you overpack your cardboard boxes, you will make them heavy. Once you pack your boxes, use tape to secure the bottom of your boxes.

Do not forget to test the weight of your boxes. Make sure your moving boxes are not too heavy. It is risky to lift and carry heavy boxes.

2. Start with Items and Rooms You Rarely Use

You need to start by packing up the rooms and items you rarely use. You can move methodically from room to room.

3. Label Your Boxes

You will put your items in different boxes. Once you pack your boxes, you should label them. Labeling your boxes can help you know what is inside. For example, you can label your boxes with “saucepans & cutlery”.

Your boxes will go into different rooms. You can, therefore, state the room each box will go into. For instance, you can put common kitchen items in a pantry, your garage, or your utility room. It is crucial to mark the rooms when labeling your boxes. It can save you time when unpacking your items.

4. Do Not Make Your Boxes Too Heavy

You will lift these boxes. So, test the weight when packing your boxes. It is not safe to lift a heavy box. However, if you are packing large boxes, you will put more items in these boxes.

You will need two people to lift your large boxes. If you want to pack large boxes, you can add “heavy load” stickers to your large boxes.

5. Get a Tape Dispenser

It is easy to use a tape dispenser to assemble and secure moving boxes. You do not have to manually cut the tape. It can take longer to pack your boxes if you have to manually cut the tape. A tape dispenser can make the work easier and save you more time closing your heavy duty gaylord boxes.

6. Be Generous When Packing

Use bubble wrap and newspaper to protect your delicate items, such as ornaments and glassware. You have to be generous with the use of bubble wrap and newspaper.

7. Do Not Leave Empty Gaps

Fill your boxes. Make the most of the space. Filling your boxes can reduce the volume of your boxes. You still need to make sure your boxes are not too heavy.

You just have to make sure your items will not move around inside your boxes to minimize the risk of your items getting damaged. Use balled-up linen or old newspapers to fill the empty gaps. Filling the empty gaps can help prevent breakages.

8. Put Your Light Items in Large Boxes

Do not put your heavy items in your large boxes. For instance, it is best to put your books and crockery in your smaller boxes. You do not want your large boxes to become too heavy.

Putting light items in large boxes can reduce the weight of these boxes. You will still be able to carry your large boxes. So, put your bedding and soft furnishings in your larger boxers.

9. Properly Pack Your Cables

There are so many things you need to do before moving. Therefore, you may be tempted to just throw your cables into the moving boxes. You will, however, have a problem unpacking your moving boxes.

Take a photo of your electric equipment before unplugging the cables. Secure your cables using cable ties and put them inside a food bag. Label these bags to make it easy to identify the correct cables for the right electric equipment.

10. Keep the Lids Tight

If you want to move liquids from your kitchen cupboards or fridge and things, such as cleaning fluids, to your new location, then you need to place the liquids into different bottles and keep the lids tight. It is even much better to place the bottles inside carrier bags or large freezer bags.

If there are breakages or leaks on the way, the leaks or breakages will be contained. Then, put these bags into a plastic crate or any other sturdy box. Fill the gaps to stop your bottles from banging against each other while in transit.
