How to Choose the Best Types of Fencing

People have all different tastes when it comes to customizing their homes, this includes fencing. Fortunately, there are dozens of options when it comes to fencing materials, heights, and aesthetics.

1. Height

First, consider how tall you want your fence to be. Fences come in varying heights depending on what you need them for, the most common heights are between three and eight feet.

For homeowners looking to achieve maximum security and/or privacy, they’ll want to opt for a six-foot-tall fence. However, for people looking for a way to keep in a small dog or separate an area for a garden, a shorter fence may be more appropriate.

2. Privacy

When choosing the best types of fencing, determine how much privacy you want your fence to provide. While you’re probably not conducting any criminal activity in your yard, you don’t necessarily want the neighbors’ eyes on you at all times either.

Alternatively, you may want to keep your dog calmer by blocking his view from other people, animals, cars, etc.

A privacy fence allows you to relax in your own yard, whether you’re sunbathing, doing your morning yoga in the sunlight, or practicing archery. It may also give you greater peace of mind to have your kids in the yard if you know they’re out of sight.

3. Material

Next, the best types of fencing for you may be based on material. There are a vast amount of fencing options out there that all have their own aesthetic appeal. However, prices vary greatly based on what type of material you choose.

For example, chain link fences are one of the least expensive options but offer little to no privacy. Brick or stone fences, on the other hand, are quite expensive but offer maximum durability, privacy, security, and aesthetics.

4. Warranties

Next, no matter what types of fences you’re looking at, make sure they come with a warranty. If you’re hiring professional contractors to install your fence, their work should naturally come with a warranty or guarantee.

However, the fence material should also come with a factory warranty, regardless of who installs it.

5. Durability

Finally, picking the best types of fencing may come down to how durable it is. Some fences require more maintenance than others. For example, a vinyl fence can easily get torn up during a harsh hail storm, but won’t be affected by moisture the same way a wood fence will.

Alternatively, you can opt for the best of both worlds and choose Trex or composite fencing. They’re made from recycled materials and are designed to be as durable as possible.
