Many people attempt to render cleaning on their own to save money. However, they make mistakes that cost them more in the long run. What common mistakes must people avoid, and when should a professional be called to handle this task? Knowing the answers to these questions makes it easy to maintain a building’s curb appeal while ensuring the safety and longevity of the structure’s exterior.

The Basics of Render Cleaning

Stains, discoloration, or other blemishes on the exterior of structures ruin their appearance. To remove these unsightly remarks, the owner turns to render cleaning. This process removes them using a combination of pressure and a water and detergent or bleach mix. Render cleaning washes away dirt, mold, algae, and lichen, all common substances seen in buildings.

A person might choose to render cleaning or turn to soft washing, which is a similar process but uses less pressure to remove these contaminants. When cleaning the building, the individual applies biocides or detergents to eliminate mildew and fungal spores that harm the building’s curb appeal.

Render cleaning methods vary by the item being cleaned. A person won’t clean an asphalt shingle roof the same way they would an aluminum sign. Some items require special treatments or equipment, and render cleaning could damage them if the wrong treatment or equipment is used. Professional cleaners know how to handle different items to ensure they come clean without sustaining damage.

The cleaner must know the proper ratios when mixing the chemicals used. Using excessive bleach can lead to permanent damage, and this is only one example of the many things that can go wrong during a cleaning.

Professionals understand the nuances of mixing chemicals and how much pressure should be used when cleaning different items. Their experience cleaning different buildings and surfaces ensures the job is done right. They adhere to industry standards when completing jobs to ensure the work is done safely and effectively.

Render Cleaning Best Practices

A person must use the right product to clean the render. Using the wrong substance can lead to permanent damage or discoloration. Testing the cleaning mixture on a small area is best to ensure this damage won’t occur. Ensure this area is hidden from sight so it won’t be overly noticeable if damage occurs. When this damage is seen, the professional will try a different cleaning combination to find the right one for the structure.

Many assume they can use bleach and water to remove these unsightly marks. While the mixture might remove the marks, bleach is a corrosive substance that can damage the building over time. If there is any doubt, it’s best to use soft washing.

Use low-pressure settings on the nozzles and detergents that are safe for humans, pets, and the environment. These products produce excellent results without harming the building over the long term. They can effectively remove stubborn mildew stains, algae, fungus, and lichen.

Brushes and sponges can also help prevent damage to buildings. Many people assume a pressure washer should be used for all parts of the building, but that isn’t the case. Damage during render cleaning often results from inexperienced people using the wrong pressure setting or cleaner. Each surface is unique in its treatment plan, as materials have different properties. Hiring a professional ensures the work is done correctly and the building isn’t damaged.

Mistakes to Avoid

High-pressure washing is one of the leading causes of damage to buildings during render cleaning. A softwashing or low-pressure nozzle will do the job effectively and minimize the risk of harm. Furthermore, don’t allow cleaning products to sit on the surface for extended periods. Doing so could lead to damage or discoloration. Apply the cleaning products and thoroughly rinse the surface with water.

A person should always wear protective gear when cleaning a structure. Gloves and goggles are needed, and other gear is beneficial. This layer of protection is essential when cleaning heavily soiled surfaces. It’s better to have a dirty building than to harm one’s health through improper render cleaning.

Any person, even one new to render cleaning, can avoid these common mistakes. However, many people choose to leave this task to the professionals. They know doing so will ensure the work is done correctly and safety measures are in place to protect the building from harm and the cleaner from injury.

Abrasive chemicals and tools can scratch and damage the building’s surface, so they should not be used for render cleaning. The proper techniques must be used for the surfaces being cleaned, so it’s best to talk with an expert before proceeding, and people need to maintain the building once it has been cleaned.

Discoloration from algae, mildew, and fungus is unsightly. Leaving it unattended can lead to costly repairs later. Calling in a professional render cleaner saves the owner money by delaying or preventing the need for these repairs.

Choosing a Professional Render Cleaning Company

A property owner may be tempted to hire the cheapest render cleaning provider. Doing so is often a mistake. It’s best to find someone experienced and knowledgeable about different rendering materials and how they should be cleaned. This person or company should know how to address mildew, algae, and other discoloration stains on a building and what steps should be taken if there are other contaminants.

Before hiring a company, ask to see its contract to learn what the service includes and which items incur an additional charge. Requiring a copy of the agreement from each provider being considered reduces the risk of unpleasant surprises when the bill comes due. Furthermore, request references from former customers and read online reviews to understand the company and its customer service better.

Ask about safety measures the company uses when cleaning a building. Is the company licensed and insured? Property owners need this information to know they are covered if something goes wrong. In addition, learn what products are used to clean buildings, as harsh chemicals do more harm than good. Look for a company that uses soft-washing methods and gentle detergents mixed with water. These methods and cleaners will protect the building from damage.

Render cleaning isn’t for the average person. Although it may appear to be easy, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Contact several companies today and request estimates. The more a person knows about the process, the easier it will be to find the correct company for the job.
