Do You Think Your Roof Needs Repair or Replacement: Common Signs to Look Out For!

There are certain signs that will tell you if your roof needs immediate attention. Here’s what you should look out for!

Cracked, Curled, or Missing Shingles

Cracked or curled shingles are signs that the shingles are almost at the end of their lifespan.

In case you see lots of these kinds of shingles or lots of missing shingles, you should immediately consider getting your roof replaced.

Repairing your roof is the best decision at this point. But there are a few things that you should know before proceeding with a roof repair.

Older roofs in Louisiana are usually single-ply roofs that come with asphalt shingles that have no granulated materials embedded within the asphalt.

This type of roof repair is pretty cheap and easy if the problem is in the fabric of the roof, but separating the layers of shingles is not possible.

If the problem is in the granulated materials, the layer that covers it has to be removed in order to get to the bottom layer; however, removing this layer will result in a loss of about 50% of the shingles which means you will have to go shopping for new ones.

Dirty, Dark, or Wet Shingles

If the shingles on your roof allow moisture to be trapped, it means they are not their job as supposed to.

Remember that the wetness may not necessarily be found under the faulty shingle because the water flows downhill.

And the second is that if you do undertake the project yourself it’s crucial to ensure your safety by using proper safety equipment.

If you do decide to go at it alone, then it’s a good idea to start with an inspection – this is a way of seeing if the damage is severe enough to warrant emergency repair.

If it is, then you should consider hiring the services of a contractor. If the issue isn’t serious, then you’ll want to go ahead and try repairing it on your own.

As with any construction project though, you’ll need all of the supplies before you begin – this includes roofing tar, shingles, nails, and roof cement.

You also need a ladder and scaffolding for safety reasons.
