7 Easy Ways to Increase Your Carpet Lifespan

So, if you want to improve your carpet’s lifespan, you need to upgrade your carpet care. Here are the top 7 ways to help you make your carpet last.

1. Keep It Clean

When dirt and grime get into your carpet fibers, it breaks the fibers down. Same thing when they get into your carpet pad, underneath your carpet.

So, one of the best ways to help your carpet last longer is by keeping as much dirt and grime out of the fibers as possible. Vacuum regularly, and treat spills and stains right away.

2. Don’t Clean Too Frequently

Unfortunately, frequent vacuuming has its downsides too. Vacuuming is a brutal process. It has to be to get out that deeply engrained dirt, and it beats up your carpet too.

Therefore, you shouldn’t vacuum more often than you need to. If you have pets that shed, this might mean vacuuming daily. But if not, you don’t need to vacuum more often than twice a week.

This way you keep your carpet clean, but don’t subject it to too much abuse.

3. Hire a Pro

You should also consider getting your carpets professionally cleaned. This gets out the deep dirt your vacuum can’t reach. There are some things to consider when you hire professional carpet cleaners.

Even still, most experts recommend you get your carpets professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months.

4. Rearrange Your Furniture

High traffic is one of the biggest sources of carpet wear and tear. One way to avoid getting traffic patterns worn into your carpet is to regularly rearrange your furniture.

This forces new traffic patterns to develop, and it can help your carpet wear more evenly, thus increasing its overall lifespan.

5. Cover Your Carpet

If there are high impact areas in your home you can’t avoid wearing down, many experts suggest adding a rug. Covering your carpet helps limit the wear and tear, and rugs are easier to clean and cheaper to replace.

6. Take off Your Shoes

Avoid tracking dirt and germs throughout your home, and leave your shoes at the door. At a creative shoe holder, and make sure everyone in your household knows the rules. Shoes are hard on the carpet, so keep them off.

7. Use a Carpet Protectant

It’s always smart to use a carpet protectant. This gives your carpet fibers a coating to keep dirt and other contaminants from seeping into the carpet fibers. When you get your carpets professionally cleaned, your cleaner can provide the protectant.

These Hacks Will Boost Your Carpet Lifespan

The amount of wear and tear your carpet experiences will affect your carpet lifespan. But by taking proper care of it, you can make it last much longer.

So, make sure you properly clean it and do your best to avoid heavy wear by regularly rearranging the furniture. Doing so consistently will help you save money and make your carpet last that much longer.
