Meet the Prequalification Requirements

Before you can think about becoming a real estate agent in Michigan, there are a few qualifications you must meet.

Complete the Education Requirements

In order to become a real estate agent, you must first go through 40 hours of pre-licensing education.

This course covers the fundamentals of practicing real estate, helping you to learn about working as a buyer’s agent and a seller’s agent. It also covers the contracts involved with buying and selling a home as well as other essential information.

You must take a 40-hour course that’s been approved by the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.

At the end of the course, you’ll need to pass the final examination. In order to pass, you’ll need a score of at least 70% on the exam.

Find a Broker Sponsor

Before you can obtain your real estate license, you must be associated with an active sponsoring broker in the state of Michigan.

You’ll want to look for a local broker with a great reputation that also provides subsequent training to their agents.

You’ll also want to see if they offer any benefits and ask about commission splits before signing on with a broker.

Submit Your Application

After completing your pre-licensing requirements and finding a broker, you’ll need to apply for your real estate license with the state of Michigan. You’ll pay an application fee when you apply.

After applying, you’ll receive an ID number that you’ll use to register for the state exam.

Pass the State Examination

Once your application is approved, you must take the state exam within one year. The test is broken into two portions: a state section and a national section, over the course of 115 questions.

You must complete it within 180 minutes and receive a score of 75% or higher to pass.

Receive Your License

Once you pass the state examination, congratulations! You’ll receive your license from the state as long as you’ve listed that you’re working with an active broker.

Now, you can begin your real estate career!

Start the Process to Become a Real Estate Agent
