Your Home Will Shine with These Great Tips for Picking a Perfect Colour Palette

Picking an appropriate color palette is the first and crucial step in interior design worldwide and here in Australia as well. Your home’s colors must reflect your personality and the things you like. The right palette is the one that you feel comfortable with.

Therefore, avoid color trends because they come and go. Here are several tips for picking a perfect color scheme that will enable your home to shine.

The 60-30-10 Rule of Thumb

Make sure to stick to this rule when you pick the color palette for your home’s interior and exterior. The 60-30-10 rule means that approximately 60 percent of your house will be painted in the color you chose to be dominant.

The primary colors nowadays are often neutral. That color should complement your secondary color that covers about 30 percent of the space, including the roof, accessories, and gables. On the other hand, the so-called accent colors should cover 10 percent of your home altogether including, for instance, the trims of your exterior.

The rule of three is incredibly convenient if you opt for an open-concept space. Moreover, by implementing that simple rule of thumb, you’ll gain the perfect balance between the colors you have chosen for your place.

The Colour Wheels

A color wheel is a fundamental tool that lets you see what colors look nice next to each other. You can find it in your local paint shop or online. As it is an excellent representation of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, it’s convenient if you have to choose an ideal palette for your home.

For example, colors next to each other on the wheel or analogous colors are more relaxing and casual. They look well in bedrooms and other private spaces.

On the other hand, complementary or opposite colors, such as, for instance, purple and yellow, may look attractive together. Still, many people don’t like the contrast and find it too stimulating.

Therefore, they search for more calming shades. The primary colors are blue, red, and yellow and can’t be created. Secondary colors imply a mixture of two primary colors. Those are purple, green, and orange. Finally, tertiary colors combine primary and secondary colors to gain unique shades.

The Quality of The Paint

When selecting an adequate color, many people just consider the color palette and browse brochures from the paint stores. But remember that the color on your walls won’t always look the same as in the catalog.

That is why you have to ensure the quality of the paint and the service of the company you plan to hire. Statistic data show that Australians paint interiors approximately every five to seven years, depending on the property’s condition. So, you have enough time to choose the right company.

Therefore, if you want your desired color to be the same as the one on the paper, opt for a trustworthy company that does residential painting in Sydney if you live in that city or nearby. You will be provided with helpful information about the right color palette for your home and be able to use the most quality paints.

Try Monochromatic

If you aren’t sure which color to use for primary, secondary, and accent shades, the 60-30-10 rule of thumb is not for you. That is also okay! Maybe you would feel more comfortable in a monochromatic space. But that means you have to pick up only one irresistible color.

For instance, if your favorite color is blue, you can implement various shades of that color into the design of smaller rooms such as a bathroom. However, opting for everything in one color can be a bit boring or tiring for the eyes. In that case, we recommend you choose a neutral color such as pastel green.

Choosing a perfect colour palette can be a challenging endeavor. But remember that you should never lean on trends before your preferences. Nevertheless, we hope that our tips have been helpful.
