On average, we spend one-third of our life sleeping. Sleep is fundamental to good physical and mental health because it’s when our bodies and minds recharge. Despite these figures, many people still struggle with falling asleep.

Could their mattress be to blame for frequent insomnia? A pillow top mattress is an option for reducing insomnia and getting a good night’s sleep.

Pillow-top mattresses are quickly becoming the most popular type of bedding. They provide a level of comfort that can be hard to find in traditional mattresses.

Whether you’re looking to replace your old mattress or seeking one better suited to your needs, pillow top mattresses might be right for you.

These four benefits can give you the best sleep of your life.

1.  Affordable

Pillow-top mattresses are in high demand, but that doesn’t mean the price is also high. Pillowtop mattresses aren’t the same as memory foam or gel mattresses. Memory foam is made from polyurethane foam that softens under body weight.

Pillow-top mattresses also conform to body weight but are made differently. A cushion made from cotton, polyester, or latex is on top of the innerspring mattress, hence the name “pillow top.”

A good retailer with pillow top mattresses for sale can compare the price between mattress types.

2. Good for Aches and Pains

One of the main reasons people switch to pillow-top mattresses is pain relief. Sleeping on firm bedding can aggravate back and leg pain, causing a restless night of sleep.

Conversely, memory foam mattresses can be too soft. Pillow-top mattresses are a middle ground between the two. The innerspring mattress underneath the pillow top stays firm thanks to the coils. Meanwhile, the pillow top provides a supportive cushion.

Whether you’re a side sleeper or a back sleeper, a pillow top mattress can eliminate the pressure points that cause aches and pains.

3. Less Chemical Off-Gassing

This may come as a surprise, but your mattress releases volatile organic compounds, or gassy chemicals, while you’re sleeping. This is caused by the materials used in making mattresses. Unfortunately, all mattresses contain these volatile chemicals to some degree.

The good news is that pillow top mattresses have less off-gassing than other mattress types. But still, it’s recommended that new mattresses are left in well-ventilated rooms for 72 hours before using them to reduce the chemical smell.

4. Doesn’t Retain Body Heat

Excessive body heat is related to the amount of chemical off-gassing that occurs. When we sleep, our body temperature drops a few degrees. However, some types of mattresses can retain body heat, increasing our temperatures.

According to WebMD, a cooler body temperature leads to better sleep. Other mattresses can trap heat, causing your body temperature to rise. The trapped heat dissipates with the comfort layer of pillow top mattresses.

Pillow-top mattresses are popular for a reason. Side sleepers could experience reduced pain in the hips and shoulders. The cushy pillow top can also lessen chronic back pain. If you’re uncomfortable with your current mattress, a pillow-top mattress might be the best fit for you.
