Air conditioners need regular maintenance to increase their lifespan. Air conditioners are an expensive investment and are very likely to wear down if not taken care of properly.

If you think your air conditioner is showing signs of malfunction, you should contact an air conditioner repair service immediately because some faults may worsen with time.

Four Air Conditioner Problems That Need Immediate Attention

Here are some of the most common problems of air conditioners that need immediate attention:

1. Refrigerant Leaks

The refrigerant is a chemical responsible for cooling the circulating air. If the refrigerant leaks, the amount of chemicals inside the air conditioner decreases, decreasing the air conditioner’s efficiency and its ability to cool the air.

It is not easy to identify a refrigerant leak. You can determine it by noticing if the air conditioner’s cooling ability has reduced even when the temperature is low.

The problem involves parts of the air conditioner such as the compressor, evaporator, and condenser, which means a homeowner cannot fix the problem independently.

Cool Care Heating and Air can fix all sorts of air conditioner problems and make your air conditioner as good as new.

2. Polluted and Dirty Filters

With time filters can get clogged, dirty, and polluted. They need to be cleaned regularly, or else they can reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner.

The condensing coil can get covered with mold, dirt, cottonwood, dust, and other particles, which will gradually weaken the cool capacity of the cooling system.

If this situation is left unnoticed, the entire cooling unit may freeze, causing the air conditioner to malfunction.

Annual maintenance is essential for keeping the filters clean. A licensed technician will identify the dirty filters in one look and will clean the coils and filters.

3. Faulty Motor

Another very common condition that requires immediate repair is a broken motor. The fan motor is located inside the air conditioner responsible for processing the hot air towards the compressor.

This is why the fan motor is constantly exposed to high temperatures and may break down if not regularly maintained.

You should get the fan motor checked before summer. The high temperatures in summer can put extra load on the cooling system and the fan motor, which can break down and cause a short circuit.

4. Faulty Fuse

You can easily see the effects of a faulty air conditioner on the circuit breaker. The circuit fuse will be broken due to the short circuit.

Due to the immense amount of current passing through the wires, the wires may swelter and cause a fire.

However, the circuit breaker usually trips before things can get worse, which is why it is recommended that you call an air conditioning repair service to fix the issue before the fire erupts.

Since the risks involved can be severely damaging, it is not a good idea to fix the problem yourself or change the fuse yourself.

However, if you are experienced and have changed a fuse before, you can replace the faulty fuse. If that does not work, you should contact a repair service and ask an expert to look into the problem.

In a Nutshell

Air conditioners are a long-term investment that lasts for many years if properly maintained and taken care of.

Over the years, using the parts of an air conditioner can become worn out. If you see any signs of air conditioner malfunction, you should immediately contact a repair service.
