Art includes a range of mediums, from canvas wall art to sculptures; there really are endless options to use. Before we discover whether we see a rise in abstract art, let’s break down what abstract art actually is.

What Is Abstract Art?

Typically, abstract art does not attempt to represent reality accurately. It usually uses shapes, forms, gestural marks, and colors to achieve the effect desired by the artist.

The word abstract is defined as existing in thought but not having a proper physical existence.

Abstract art embodies this, as the art created will not have any concrete resemblance to physical beings or objects. This art form heavily leans away from past art styles, such as the Renaissance model.

What Makes Abstract Art Different from Other Art Forms?

Abstract art does not focus on the accurate depiction of an object or person, it leans away from realism. Artists creating abstract art usually aim to probe ideas that lie beyond physical reality and human existence.

Realistic art is the opposite of this, it strives to depict reality, humans, and objects more accurately.

How Can You Use Abstract Art At Home?

As abstract art is so versatile and varied, there are no real limitations on how you can use it. If your taste is more centered around neutral tones, an abstract art piece could be used to create a colorful focal point in a room.

This can add a fun and energetic atmosphere to a room, perfect for encouraging creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. However, if you have plenty of color in your space, a big abstract piece might overwhelm the rest of the decor.

This can be solved by finding a black-and-white abstract art piece. Abstract art does not have to be created using bold and bright colors, the abstractness can lie within the shapes and lines.

Abstract art can also be used in twos to create symmetry within your space. This can make any room feel balanced. Abstract art is easy to find in pairs as the artist’s creativity often spills onto another canvas.

You could also take this one step further and create a gallery wall with your canvas wall art. Abstract art has no limitations on how many pieces are made to be put together. You can also find your own selection of similar artworks to create a complimentary gallery wall.

So, Are We Seeing A Rise In Abstract Art?

In short, the answer is yes. Abstract art has been popular since the 1950s and is still the most popular form of art today. As abstract art has few limitations on how it should look, most people will be able to find a piece that they find pleasing.

It has been declared one of the most important art movements. Abstract art has seen iconic artists such as Jackson Pollock, Wassily Kandinsky, and Georgia O’ Keefe. It is definitely still rising in popularity, and we don’t expect it to stop anytime soon. When looking for abstract art, be sure to brainstorm what you would like each room to represent.

If you’d like your space to exude creativity and energy, you should look for bold and bright art. However, if you’re looking to create a tranquil environment, look for more flowing and muted abstract art.
