Automatic Helpers: Pros and Cons of Automatic Pool Cleaners

That said, if you’re considering getting an automatic pool cleaner, there are three choices to choose from: robotic cleaners, pressure pool cleaner, and suction cleaner.

There’s also a manual cleaner, but no one wants to spend much of their time cleaning their pool.

This article will talk about the pros and cons of having an automatic pool cleaner and why you should have one. But first, let’s talk briefly about the types of pool cleaners you can get.

Robotic Cleaner

An automatic robot cleaner is fully independent, which means it doesn’t require you to connect it to hoses or the pool’s filtration system.

The only thing you have to do is to connect it to a protected outlet and just put it in the water. So how does it work?

It picks up nearby leaves and dirt that’s floating in the water, and it also has a brush where it can scrub the pool floor for a deep clean.

But, of course, since it collects dirt, it has a filtration system, and it needs to be emptied every after use. An automatic robot cleaner is a great option if your pool doesn’t have a skimmer basket.

Suction Cleaner

A suction cleaner is also a great option for most pool owners. It has a suction hose that floats on the surface as the cleaner moves around the pool.

Of course, the hose is connected to the skimmer port while the suction cleaner sucks the dirt caked on the pool’s floor.

A leaf catcher would strain the twigs, leaves, and other debris to prevent the suction cleaner from clogging.

After the suction cleaner finishes cleaning, it’s crucial to empty the skimmer basket. It’s a simple thing to do that lets the suction cleaner stay efficient.

Pressure Cleaner

This is arguably the most popular automatic pool cleaner in the United States and is also the most common automatic pool cleaner that most households have. It’s most efficient for pools that are near big trees and windy areas.

Typically, pressure cleaners require you to have a pressure line, and depending on the brand you chose; it might even require a separate booster pump.

And of course, the attached bag of the pressure cleaner needs to be emptied every after use to stay efficient. Now that you know the most common automatic pool cleaners in the market, we shall discuss the pros and cons.

Cons

Time-efficient

Getting an automatic pool cleaner will shave you most of your time cleaning the pool as it does most of the work for you.

Regardless of what type of automatic cleaner you picked, you just need to turn it on, put it in the water, and it will clean it with little to no human intervention. Mostly, the only thing you need to do is to empty its bag where it stores the debris.

Great for Large Pools

If you have a large pool, then having an automatic pool cleaner would be heaven-sent because, of course, the larger your pool is, the more time-consuming cleaning it will be. So, of course, with an automatic cleaner, you’ll save a lot more time and energy.

Cons

Cost

Of course, most of us would ask how much an automatic cleaner would be. And obviously, they are much more expensive than manual pool cleaners, and with a good reason.

However, with an automatic pool cleaner, you’ll be able to regularly clean your pool, which makes you seldomly hire a professional to have your pool deep cleaned.

Less Accurate

With an automatic pool cleaner, you’ll be mostly relying on the power of a machine to clean the pool for you.

But without our insight, it might be less accurate when cleaning. Chances are that there might be a few spots where it misses cleaning.

Does Not Clean the Stairs or Sides of the Pool

Of course, this one does not apply to all automatic cleaners since some of them clean the stairs and the sides.

But typically, suction cleaners and pressure cleaners are only able to clean the floor of the pool. This can leave your pool dirty on the stairs and sides.

Final Words

So, are automatic pool cleaners worth it? The short answer to that is yes. The pros of automatic cleaners far surpass their cons, not to mention they are most cost-effective.

So, if you don’t want to spend a lot of time and energy cleaning your pools, then having an automatic cleaner can greatly speed up maintenance work. With nothing left to do, you have more time to enjoy your pool.
