If you want to learn why you should also invest in houseplants, we can help. In this guide, we’ll go over the benefits of houseplants.

Plants help people feel calmer and give them a sense of purpose. Ready to learn more? Keep reading.

Improve Your Environment and Air Quality

A lot of people talk about how plants make you feel. Plants might make your space feel more cheerful or aesthetically pleasing. But plants also help improve your physical environment and indoor air quality.

Indoor plants absorb CO2 and release oxygen through transpiration and evapotranspiration. Plants release moisture vapor and even improve humidity levels.

Airborne toxins and gases are emitted from building materials and equipment. Pollution is found in the outdoor atmosphere of cities. Yet, pollution also gets found in your home or office.

Plants absorb pollutants through their leaves and send the toxins to their roots. The toxins get turned into a food source.

Paint cleaners, carpets, and inks give off nasty pollutants called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs will often build up in the air and irritate your skin and eyes. They will worsen your asthma and make it hard to breathe.

Houseplants will soak up the VOCs. Pick up a dragon tree or English ivy to combat VOCs.

You May Experience Allergy Relief

Rooms with plants often have less mold and dust than rooms without foliage. Leaves will act as a filter and capture allergens.

Look at getting low-light houseplants like a peace lily or a Chinese evergreen. Violets with textured leaves can also trap allergens.

Your Mental Health May Improve

Green plants and colorful petals cheer up any surroundings and improve your mood.

Colleagues in offices filled with cheerful plants often feel better at work. They also worry less and don’t take as many sick days.

You can add a touch of color to your home office. Fill a vase with this season’s flowers or pick up a potted fern. Pick up a large plant in a funky pot for your living room.

What About Moisture?

Did you know spider plants will improve the moisture level in a home? Air conditioners and furnaces often sap out the humidity indoors and in the winter.

This increases your chance of getting a cold or catching the flu. Houseplants can add that moisture back to the indoor air.

Pick Up Different Herbs

Some people will buy helpful plants for their physical health benefits. For example, if you suffer from gas or bloating, pick up mint. You can make mint tea or mint water to help reduce digestion problems.

Mint is an easy herb to grow. Grow peppermint or spearmint in a container. You can even start some small containers for friends or family.

Do you love to cook Italian food? Consider picking up basil or oregano to add to your meals. Basil can also help calm your stomach. Some people will steep basil leaves in a cup of hot water.

Lavender remains a popular herb for alleviating stress. You can inhale lavender oil or massage it on your wrist for aromatherapy.

Some people will boil the lavender leaves and make tea. People with anxiety will use lavender rollers.

Do you want a sunburn treatment this summer? Pick up an aloe vera plant. The gel in the plant will soothe the minor burn. It can also help relieve psoriasis symptoms.

Do You Need Help Sleeping?

Plants will take in CO2 and release oxygen through photosynthesis. Gerbera daisies will keep giving off oxygen even as the sun goes down.

Put a few plants in your bedroom. Some people will add lavender plants in their room for both benefits.

Relieve Some Stress

Do you feel weighed down right now? Add a few plants to your space. You can improve the decor and relax.

People’s heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels increase during stressful times. But having plants in your environment will help you feel calmer and relaxed.

Improve Your Focus

You could improve your memory by having houseplants around.

Plants can help people focus better on work tasks at the office.

Bring a bamboo plant or golden pothos to your house. If you have a home office, fill it with plants.

You’ll Heal Faster

Did you ever wonder why people send flowers to the hospital? A bouquet or a plant will help a loved one in the hospital heal faster.

People tolerate pain better and need fewer meds when surrounded by greenery. When your loved one or friend is at the hospital, send them some houseplants. They can bring the houseplant home with them.

Have Fun Decorating

Some people fill their homes with unique plants and flowers because they love nature.

Decorating with plants is a lot of fun. You can fill cool vases with bright flowers every week. Consider picking up a plant shelf, where you can show off your favorite potted ferns.
