In the United States, the job market for heavy vehicle and mobile equipment technicians is expected to grow 11% in the next decade.

The reason for this is simple. Maintenance on heavy vehicles and equipment can save a company millions on replacement parts.

Cleaning Air Filters To Clean or Replace

One of the most common issues is a dirty air filter. When does it need to be replaced and when is cleaning air filters appropriate?

Let’s take a look at that question, so you’ll know whether you need to replace or clean the air filters in your equipment.

Air Filters

One of the most important parts of an engine is the air filter. Without a clean, contaminant-free flow of air, engines don’t work right.

As your filter gets dirtier, the cost of operating the equipment can increase. Gas mileage will go down and the power output of the engine will decrease.

Modern equipment uses a two-stage air filtration system. The second stage acts as a backup in case the first stage fails. This keeps harmful contaminants and particulate matter out of the engine.

Inspection of the first stage can prevent it from falling. If it is dirty, you can either choose to replace or clean it.

Cleaning Air Filters

Every time a diesel air filter gets dirty, it doesn’t need to be replaced. If you did that, you’d end up wasting a lot of money by throwing away good air filters. The purpose of cleaning an air filter is to allow fresh, clean air to flow through it once again.

When it comes time for cleaning air filters, you can’t wipe them off. Instead, you’ll need to use air filter cleaning tools like an air filter cleaner.

Cleaning engine air filters go hand in hand with boosting engine performance. Using the best gear for the job will make the process easier and more effective.

Replacing Air Filters

No matter how clean you keep an air filter, there will come a time when it has to be replaced. For the most part, this happens when the filter has become damaged. Small particulate matter will degrade the filter over time, chipping away until it no longer functions.

As long as you conduct regular inspections, you’ll know when to replace air filters. The visible signs are obvious. Also, if a filter won’t come clean during a regular cleaning process, there’s a good chance it has reached the end of its usable life.

Air Filters in Your Equipment

Cleaning air filters in your equipment is a fast, easy process that doesn’t waste time. Keeping the equipment moving at peak power and without wasting gas is essential to profit.

Don’t risk the health of an entire diesel engine. Check the air filters often and make sure they are clean.
