Common Air Conditioner Problems and How to Fix Them

Each year before the hot weather arrives, it is critical that you test out your air conditioning to ensure that it will meet the high demands of a sweltering heatwave long before one arrives and you get stuck suffering from unbearable temperatures.

If your air conditioner is not in great shape, you may need air conditioner repair in Oakville or a location close to your home, or you may even need to buy an entirely new unit.

However, before you get to that stage, you’ll want to assess any problems you may be currently experiencing with your unit.

To help you get started, here is a list of five of the most common issues that people tend to experience with air conditioning systems and ways to address these problems

Your Air Conditioner Won’t Turn On

If your cooling unit doesn’t even start, you could be facing a troubling situation – but it could also be a simple solution. The first thing you need to check is to ensure that your circuit breaker hasn’t tripped.

Don’t forget that air conditioning units require a lot of electricity to run; if you’re trying to use the same outlet for other devices, you could easily overload it. If there’s nothing wrong with your electrical panel, it is time to call for a repair.

Your Air Conditioner Won’t Turn Off

An air conditioner that is stuck on is another common problem. You may want to escape the heat and get cool, but you aren’t going to want to be that cool!

While you can check to see whether the thermostat on your device is working correctly, this problem may have a number of causes. If you can’t find a simple solution right away, it will be best to contact a technician.

Blowing a Lot of Hot Air

When your air conditioner sends out hot air instead of cool air, it has the opposite effect from what you usually desire. If you haven’t cleaned out the filters in your air conditioner in some time, it is likely that they are clogged and causing the machine to overheat.

You may also find that there is an obstruction inside your unit. If these solutions do not fix your air conditioner, you may be out of coolant and require repair.

Leaking Water

Your air conditioner contains a drainage system that allows condensation to flow outside your home rather than where you don’t want it. If you’re finding water in undesirable places, the cause is likely worn out, clogged, or faulty drainage pipes.

If you are unsure what is causing the problem in your cooling system, the best option is to contact a repair technician to help you get up and running again before the hot weather hits.
