With the changing seasons, it might be time to put away the winter decor and bring out something that’s going to create more of a summer feel in the main living room of your home.

Though you may already have items you can use to redecorate the space, you may want to consider making some other changes, too. If you’re looking to create a cozy summer living room and help, make the space brighter, use the following tips.

Let Lighter Inside

Blinds are an easy and stylish way to control the amount of light entering a space. In the living room, open up the blinds during the day to let in more light, creating a brighter space.

Blinds can be partially opened to let in light while minimizing the view from outside or you can layer them with sheer curtains to increase privacy while still letting a lot more sun into the room. If you don’t have blinds, check out Bloomin Blinds San Antonio to have them installed.

Bring the Outdoors Inside

Add plants to the space to help bring the outdoors in and make the space feel more comforting. Easy to care for plants are excellent for use in the living room, and they’ll continue to look great all summer long.

Take the time to look into the easiest plants for beginners if you don’t have experience growing indoor plants or opt for something a little more challenging if you have plenty of experience.

Greens are perfect for adding in some color, but unique and gorgeous flowers can add to the room’s overall look, too.

Add Quality Artwork

Don’t forget to add bright and bold artwork to the room. This doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money, though. It is possible to purchase quality artwork for less, so you can spend a little bit to change up the whole look of the living room.

Shop around a bit to find the perfect piece for the space and make sure you know what size to buy to make the biggest impact without taking up too much space on the open walls.

Layer Cozy Textures

Textures can make a space feel more cozy and welcoming, so layer them for the perfect look. Opt for wood decor in the room as well as soft, fluffy pillows and throws on the chairs.

Use different bright colors if you need to add more color to the space or stick with neutral colors if you want a cozy look without it taking over the room.

If your furniture is a more natural color, get creative with the pillows in the room to help brighten the space and help everything stand out a bit more.

Add More Seating Areas

If there aren’t many seating areas in the living room, now’s the perfect chance to add more. A chair or two in a corner with a cute throw is perfect for relaxing and reading in the evening.

Cushions that can be used on the floor are fantastic for having extra seating around when you have guests and are easy to stack and put out of the way when they leave. Choose seating based on the use of the room, but make sure you consider the fabric and colors to enhance the room’s overall look.

Use A Light-Colored Rug

A large rug helps to tie everything together in the space, but this isn’t where you want to be bold. Instead, opt for a light-colored rug, as this helps bring it all together without becoming the focal point of the room.

Worried about muddy footprints all over the rug? There are ones that can repel stains and will be easier to clean up, so you can add a light-colored rug without worrying about what the kids are doing outside.

Add Mirrors to the Room

If you need a little bit more light in the room, try adding decorative mirrors. They will help move light around the room, making the room seem brighter than it already is, and help create a more vibrant space.

Take the time to choose the right decorative mirrors  for the space and consider where they’ll be located in the room. Avoid putting mirrors where they’ll be in direct light, as this can cause further fading of the rugs and furniture around the room.

Paint With Lighter Colors

Ready to paint the room? If you’re ready to make bigger changes in the room, now’s a great time to consider painting it. It’s likely a better idea to opt for lighter colors throughout the room, as this helps to reflect the light and can help the space seem brighter.

If you do want to use bolder colors, opt for something bright and vibrant to create a focal wall instead of painting it throughout the entire room. When you’re choosing a paint color, keep in mind the colors of the furniture, rug, flooring, and other major components in the room to find the perfect shade.

Create Space Between Furniture

When you’re considering the furniture placement, make sure there is space between everything. You’ll want to space out the furniture to help give the idea that the room is bigger and to make it more comfortable to sit anywhere in the room.

It also makes it easier to walk through the space, as you won’t have to go far to go around the furniture and get to the other side of the room. Try out different layouts throughout the room to find one that’s perfect for your needs.

Now’s the perfect time to take a look at your living room to see what can be changed to create a cozy, yet bright room that perfectly showcases the summer months.

There’s actually a lot you can do to change the look, and you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a completely new look for your living room.

Use the tips here to make your living room a brighter, more vibrant space, while still keeping the cozy feeling you get when you’re relaxing at the end of the day.
