Choosing the right installations for your home can be a long but rewarding process. While the interior is where you’ll spend the majority of your time, the outside of your house is the first thing people see.

Selecting the right driveway for your house isn’t a one-size-fits-all decision. There are a few factors to keep in mind such as what types of vehicles you drive, the aesthetic you want, the climate where you live, your budget, and more.

We’ve got you covered with this comprehensive guide on the different types of driveways for your home.

Concrete Driveway

A concrete driveway is the most popular option for homeowners and for a good reason. It’s one of the most affordable options out there and is known for being durable and low maintenance.

If installed properly, a concrete driveway can last years and hold up to frequent use. However, there are some downsides.

If you live in a cold climate, a concrete driveway might not be the best option. It’s prone to get icy and break down in the freezing weather.

It’s a struggle to keep a concrete driveway looking pristine. One oil spill will stain the concrete and will be difficult to remove.

However, if you’re not as concerned about the aesthetic, and simply want something functional, a concrete driveway is a great option.

Gravel Driveway

Gravel driveways are optimal for a more rustic look. They are also the most affordable and easiest driveway to install. They work best on large properties surrounded by greenery to give that country appearance.

The biggest downside to a gravel driveway is the maintenance. Gravel is a loose substance and will need to be replaced frequently.

Gravel can also cause damage to your vehicle over time. For larger vehicles that can withstand wear and tear, this might not be a problem.

However, larger stones within the gravel mixture can scratch the tires and even get stuck in the brakes of your car.

Asphalt Driveway

Asphalt gives a sleek black appearance that looks great over time. Unlike concrete driveways, asphalt takes a bit more maintenance. It’s likely to crack and will need to be monitored to ensure the problem doesn’t worsen.

Repairing an asphalt driveway is affordable and, with the right materials, you may be able to do it yourself.

This is a great option if you have a large driveway to cover and want something that will both look good and stay within your budget.

Brick Driveway

A brick driveway is long-lasting with a timeless look. There are plenty of color options to choose from and a brick driveway will elevate the appearance of your home.

Brick driveways are one of the most durable options with low maintenance. They will last decades and increase the value of your home. However, the investment up-front is significant.

If you decide to opt for brick, be sure to hire professionals that specialize in installing these driveways as improper installation can make it difficult to use.

Paver Driveway

A paver driveway can be made of concrete, brick, cobblestone, and more. This is an extremely customizable option and, if installed correctly, can last a long time.

If you want something styled to fit your home, this is the best option. Paved driveways can be set to fit any layout and are simple to repair. Pavers Plus, LLC recommends this type of driveway for those looking for a unique aesthetic that will stand out and increase the value of your property.

Choose from These Types of Driveways to Fit Your Budget and Style
