Keep reading to learn how to properly care for leather furniture.

1. Don’t Neglect Leather Furniture

One of the worst things you can do to leather furniture is ignored it. Unlike other furniture, which may be more low maintenance, the lifespan of leather can be shortened by not taking the time to properly maintain it.

People assume that because leather is a strong material, that there it requires little special attention.

The best way to care for leather furniture is to not ignore and neglect it. If you do, you’ll notice that it will start looking dirty and damaged. You should also make sure that any spills get cleaned up as quickly as possible.

2. Don’t Let Stains Set

Yes, leather furniture is more difficult to stain than fabric, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore any spills. They should be cleaned up as quickly as to prevent any discoloration. You’ll want to start by removing the excess spillage before it does any more damage.

Once the excess spillage is controlled, use a dry, soft cloth and gently blot the area. You can usually clean up a spill before it stains the leather, but sometimes you might need additional help. Look for the best leather care products  for furniture to make sure that stains are a thing of the past.

While a wet cloth can be used on some spills if dry blotting isn’t enough, don’t apply water directly to any grease or oil spills. These types of stains need special attention, so be careful if you’re eating foods that could cause these stains. If ever in doubt about a cleaning solution, do a spot test.

3. Do Nourish and Condition

If there’s one way to guarantee that your leather furniture lasts through the years, it’s by cleaning and conditioning it every so often. There are plenty of suitable cleaning products that can be used to wipe down leather furniture.

For example, saddle soap. This removes built-up dirt and dust and also improves the appearance of the leather. Use microfiber rags whenever you need to give your furniture a good wipe down.

There are also special conditioning products that are available to rejuvenate the appearance of leather.

While you’re at it, try to position your leather furniture away from sunlight or look for solar window films. The sun can cause your leather upholstery to age faster, so it’s better to avoid any direct sunlight.

This type of nourishing and conditioning may not show results immediately, but over time you’ll see that your furniture is looking good as new.

How to Care for Leather Furniture

Think of leather the way you think of your skin. Good quality leather is a natural, breathable material, and it changes over time. This means that it requires regular attention to look its best.

You’ll want to dust them with a dry cloth often and do a monthly application of leather cream to keep your furniture soft and moisturized.

If you want to care for your leather furniture properly, you’ll need to follow these do’s and don’ts. This will ensure that your favorite luxury item will last for years to come.
