1. The Kitchen Sink

The kitchen sink sees a lot of dirt and grime on a day-to-day basis. While you might give it a wash and a rinse when you do the dishes, when is the last time you cleaned the garbage disposal or drain?

To give it a deep clean, you can make your own cleaner by pouring a cup of baking soda followed by two cups of vinegar or some lemon juice down the drains. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes and then pour boiling water down to wash it out.

To help freshen up your garbage disposal, cut up a lemon, and drop the wedges down into the blades. You can also clean the blades by running ice cubes through them.

2. The Mattress

Most people regularly wash their sheets, blankets, and pillowcases but seldom think twice about washing their mattresses. In order to clean your mattress start by using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner to suck up any dust, hair, or dirt particles. Next use an upholstery spray cleaner to get rid of any stains or odors.

If you would like an even deeper clean, mix some baking soda with a few drops of essential oil. Sprinkle this mixture over the mattress, let sit an hour, and then vacuum it off.

3. The Bookshelf

An often overlooked area of your home when it comes to cleaning is your bookshelf. Once you have your books neatly organized in it you might not give them another thought. Unfortunately, the tops of your books, and the shelf itself, are prone to collect lots of dust and dirt.

To give it a good clean, use a magnetic cloth to wipe the tops of your books and their spines. Then remove your entire inventory so you can wipe the shelves down with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

4. The Shower

When cleaning the shower walls it might be hard to get some of the soap stains off that have built up over time. You can use a solution of one part dish soap and one part vinegar to freshen up the grout. It’s also one of the best ways to use a boat eraser around the house.

When you give your shower a thorough cleaning you should also wash your shower curtain and replace your liner if it’s plastic.
