Factors to Consider Before Solar Panel Installation

A solar installation is one of the best ways to power your home and business with less impact on the environment.

However, you have to consider many factors before you invest in the solar power system. You have to understand the functionality behind it before taking the plunge.

These factors will help you decide whether solar power is the right choice for you and your home:

Where Do You Live?

Obviously, the more the sun shines, the more energy it will generate. So your geographic location is the first factor you must consider before the solar installation.

Even if you live in cloudy regions, you can still benefit from solar panels. It takes extra panels to make up for the lower energy production.

To determine these, you should know about the climatic and weather conditions of your region.

The Orientation of Your House

Other than geographic location, you should also check out the orientation of your house.

Roofs that face the South, South East, and South West will produce the most energy for houses that are above the equator.

Go around and inspect any tall objects like satellite dishes or trees casting shadows on your roof. It can also hinder energy production to a great deal.

Roof Condition

The main advantage of choosing solar installation is its durability. Solar panels are a one-time investment and have a lifespan of 25 years or more.

So before the installation, you have to make sure that your roof is in good condition. If not, it can be challenging to remove and reinstall panels at a later point in time.

In addition to this, also consider the material, layout, and direction it is facing. Even if your roof is not receiving sunlight directly, even a little sunlight can help your case.

Choose The Right Panel

Roof-mounted panels are the most popular and traditional option that is chosen by many homeowners. But you can also consider ground-mounted systems.

Ground-mounted ones can be installed anywhere and are ideal for homes with north-facing roofs or limited roof space.

You can also go for panels with trackers, which can move the panels to follow the sun. This system can generate more power as it makes use of the sun effectively.

Before you decide, talk to the contractors about the panel efficiency.

Finance Options

The solar system’s cost depends on various factors like the type of panels, size of the system, and the company you use.

If you have the cash handy, you can pay it upfront, which is the simplest payment method. Alternately, you can also opt for flexible payment plans.

If you are not taken with buying the unit, you can instead lease the solar power system. All you have to do is pay a rental fee, which depends on the contractor or company you choose.

If you think the solar panel is the right choice for your home, your next step should be finding the right solar companies or contractors to help you with the solar installation process.
