It takes more than just a convenient location to wow Airbnb guests. Thoughtful guides and welcome gifts are all well and good, but if you don’t have the most important things covered, you probably won’t get the 5-star reviews you need to thrive on the platform.

Happy Hosting: 6 Things Guests Wish You Had in Your Airbnb

If you’ve never been a guest, it can be hard to tell exactly what they want. So, we talked to regular travelers to uncover their most common desires.

From healthy non-toxic cookware to quality bedding, here are six things that will earn you glowing reviews from Airbnb guests.

1. Kitchen Basics

So many Airbnb hosts fail to provide oil, kitchen towels, salt, pepper, and other basic spices. You may think your guests should be responsible for these items, but put yourself in their shoes for a moment.

You can’t easily take these things through airport security, and no one wants to open their suitcase and discover an explosion of oil or paprika.

However, it’s equally annoying to have to buy these basics every time you get to a new Airbnb. People choose Airbnb for the home-style experience, so stock your kitchen with the basics.

2. Cookware That Doesn’t Look Scratched and Old

The assumption among Airbnb hosts seems to be that people won’t respect your cookware anyway, so you may as well leave them with ugly, scratched, beaten-up pots.

This does not create a good impression. However, thoughtful people do tend to understand that some of the blame here lies with previous guests. It’s a conundrum that can be solved by purchasing sturdy, eco-friendly pots that can take a battering from your more thoughtless guests.

3. Full-Length Mirrors

Many people like to see what they look like before leaving the house, so consider including a full-length mirror somewhere in your Airbnb property.

For convenience, easy cleaning, and minimal chances of breakage, go for a mirrored panel you can stick inside a closet or on a wall. These aren’t expensive, but so many hosts just don’t think to include them.

4. Umbrellas

As an Airbnb guest, there’s nothing like the happy realization that your host has provided something you desperately need. Nowhere is this more true than with umbrellas.

Like spices and oil, umbrellas can be cumbersome to travel with, so many people don’t pack them. However, if they need to head out to a meeting, catch a bus, or pick up lunch during a rainstorm, they will be eternally grateful that you were thoughtful enough to provide umbrellas.

Note that even if your property is in an area that rarely gets rain, plenty of people will appreciate the sun-blocking power of your umbrellas.

5. Good Quality Bedding

If you’re one of those Airbnb hosts who dumps their old, unsupportive mattresses into their property, you should know that all your guests are onto you.

Even if they don’t specifically mention it in their reviews, you can guarantee that they won’t be primed for positivity if they’ve gotten poor sleep quality and left your property with aches and pains. So, invest in decent mattresses, pillows, and bedding.

6. Region-Specific Touches

If your property is by the beach, consider providing reef-safe sunscreen, after-sun spray, and bug repellant. If you have a cabin in the woods, your guests will love you if you provide plenty of chopped firewood.

Practical touches like these show guests that you’re not just in it for the money – you genuinely want them to have a brilliant time. Does your property offer everything on this list?
