6 Home Deep Cleaning Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

1. Take a Top to Bottom Approach

Start with your ceiling fans and light fixtures and end your deep clean with your floors. When you are doing a deep clean you must adopt a top-to-bottom approach. In doing so you will make sure you are maximizing your time cleaning.

Professional house cleaners always use a top to bottom approach. If you were to start with the floors, once you got the cleaning the ceiling fan, you would be sweeping the debris down to the floor and need to clean them again.

2. Focus on Cleaning Disposals and Drains

When we routinely clean our kitchen and bathroom we work to make sure that the sink bowl is clean. However, how often do we draw our attention to the drain?

The drains in your home are the exit spot for all of the germs and food debris that you wash down the sink. As a result, drains and disposals are hotspots for bacteria and grime. A mixture of vinegar, baking soda, and hot water is a great way to help flush bacteria and build-up from your drains.

3. Clean Out Your Vacuum

Vacuuming away debris and dirt is a major convenience when it comes to cleaning. However, if you don’t routinely clean your vacuum, it will become less effective. Prepping your cleaning supplies for a deep clean is important- you have to use clean tools for cleaning.

When dirt and filth are left on the floor it can cause damage to your floor and make your home unhygienic. Vacuums come fully equipped with accessories to help you clean hard-to-reach places.

4. Do Not Skip the Rugs

Having rugs strategically placed throughout your home can help you keep your floors clean and prevent the spread of dirt and bacteria. As a result, the rugs in a home are full of bacteria and dirt. When deep cleaning a space you need to be proactive about cleaning and disinfecting your rugs.

To partly avoid doing this frequently, you can consider choosing rugs in certain materials, like wool, cotton, or jute, that don’t require frequent cleaning. This comes with several benefits. Firstly, it can save you time and effort in the long run; as such, rugs are easy to maintain and keep clean. Secondly, it can help you save money on professional cleaning services or expensive cleaning products. Lastly, it can contribute to the overall durability and longevity of the rug, allowing it to retain its aesthetic and functional value for a longer period of time. For example, washing and cleaning a cowhide rug or a wool rug is comparatively easy to clean, requiring less maintenance.

5. Do Not Overwork Your Dishwasher

During a deep clean you will want to make your kitchen spotless. However, even if dishes aren’t too dirty you need to be cautious about overwhelming your dishwasher.

Dishwashers are a major luxury for maintaining a tidy home. However, if there are too many dishes and large objects in the dishwasher the water will not be able to flow well throughout the machine.

6. Dust the Blinds

Streak-free windows and clean window blinds can immediately freshen a room. However, a room’s windows and blinds are often neglected when it comes to a deep clean.

Window blinds collect a lot of dust. In order to routinely clean these blinds, you should use a duster to loosen up stubborn dust then rub them down with a damp cloth.

Avoid Home Deep Cleaning Mistakes

Deep cleaning is only effective if you can avoid home deep cleaning mistakes. You can alleviate the stress of a deep clean by sticking to a regular home cleaning schedule. However, if you are good about keeping your home tidy and cleaning surfaces you will want to plan for a deep clean every few months.
