Everyone knows that the inside of a house is as important as the outside, and it can be difficult to choose what type of fabric to use on your upholstery.

There are many types of fabrics available for interior design, from silk to linen. Each one has its own characteristics which make it appropriate for some environments more than others.

For example, velvet is a luxurious fabric that would not be suitable in a home with children or pets because it could become stained easily.

Linen is durable and easy to clean but does tend to wrinkle easily when used in an upholstered sofa this might not be ideal if you like things neat and tidy.

So, when deciding on fabrics for your home’s interior design, take into consideration who will be using the space, what the environment is like, and how much upkeep you are willing to do.

Here are a Few Fabrics That are Ideal for Use in the Home

Linen Fabric

Linen fabric is durable and easy to clean, making it a good choice for upholstery. It also has a natural resistance to stains, making it a good option for families with children or pets.

Linen is good for everyday use because it has a beautiful texture and can be blended with other materials to create more casual or formal looks. Linen is also breathable, which makes it good for summer climates.

Linen can be expensive if you use it for your furniture, but if you use linen as an accent textile on pillows or drapes it’s perfect. One idea which can save you money is to purchase linen fabric by the yard.

Velvet

Velvet has been an extremely popular fabric choice recently, and for good reason. It is luxurious and soft, making it a great choice for upholstery or bedding.

Velvet is also durable and resistant to stains, making it a good option for high-traffic areas. However, velvet is not the best choice for climates with high humidity because it can absorb moisture and become heavy and wrinkled.

Velvet can be found as a plain solid color or as a patterned fabric that adds texture to the room.

Wood Fabric

Wood has been used as a textile material for centuries, and it makes sense because wood is beautiful and natural-looking.

The best thing about using wood as a piece of upholstery fabric is that it will never go out of style and it works well for almost any room.

Wood can be used in a variety of ways, from opting for wood on the upholstered pieces of furniture to using wood on just your window treatments or your decorative pillows.

Cotton Fabric

Cotton is another durable fabric that is easy to clean. It is also a good choice for allergy sufferers as it does not attract dust mites.

Cotton is available in many different prints and styles, making it a good option for a variety of rooms.

One downside to cotton is that it can be heavy and difficult to work with, so it might not be the best choice for someone who isn’t experienced in interior design.

Leather

Leather is a hard-wearing fabric that is perfect for furniture that will be used frequently. It is also easy to clean and resists staining.

Leather is a good option for people who want a luxurious look in their home but don’t want to worry about upkeep.

The downside to leather is that it can be expensive, and it can also become hot in summer climates.

Microfiber

Microfiber is a synthetic fabric that is very soft and comfortable to sit on. It is also durable and easy to clean. Microfiber is also resistant to stains, which makes it a good option for families with children or pets.

Microfiber is not the best choice for climates with high humidity because it can absorb moisture and become heavy and wrinkled.

When choosing the fabric for your interior design, it is important to consider all of the options and choose the one that best suits your needs and desires.  With so many different fabrics to choose from, there is sure to be one that is perfect for your home.
