One of the most popular rooms to remodel is the kitchen – and for good reason! The kitchen is often the heart of the home and where families spend the most time together.

How Long Does a Kitchen Remodel Take: A Breakdown

First, let’s talk about job length estimates. The length of time your kitchen remodel will take depends largely on the depth of remodeling you want to do. To help you calculate how long you can expect to wait for your new kitchen to be completed, here are a few of the most common remodeling projects and their timeframes:

  • Design: 1-4 weeks
  • Product Shipping: 1-2 months
  • Moving Appliances and/or Utilities: 1-2 weeks
  • Painting: 2-3 days
  • Flooring Installation: 1-2 days
  • Cabinet Installation: 2-4 days
  • Countertop Prep and Installation: 1-4 weeks
  • Lighting Installation: 1-2 days
  • Finishing Touches: 2-4 days

All in all, if you want a complete kitchen remodel, it will take between 3 and 6 months. Alternatively, if you only need to fix a stove and paint a wall or two, you can get it done much faster.

How to Save Money on a Kitchen Remodel

If you’ve already begun research into remodeling, you probably know how much a kitchen remodel costs. However, if you’re just getting started, you might be asking how much does a kitchen remodel cost?

Well, prepare yourself, as kitchen remodels are among the most expensive of all home projects. The average kitchen remodel costs about $42,000.

But don’t worry! There are plenty of ways to save money. You can absolutely create your ultimate kitchen without breaking the bank.

The best way to save money on any remodeling project is to go the DIY route because a large portion of the bill from a contractor is going to account for labor. That said, you should only tackle projects you feel comfortable with.

Attempting to DIY plumbing is particularly risky if you’re not sure what you’re doing. You can easily end up spending far more than you would have had you simply hired a contractor in the first place.

Before you begin any projects, set a budget, and plan accordingly. Know where you want to save and where you can afford to splurge.

For example, you might have your heart set on marble countertops, which is a great option, but one of the most expensive. This means you might have to cut back in another area, such as flooring.

Take Your Time with Your Kitchen Remodel

At the end of the day, there’s no one answer to the question “how long does a kitchen remodel take.”

Yes, you can estimate how long the jobs you want to complete will take if you do them all at once, but there’s also nothing wrong with taking as much time as you need to accommodate budgetary restrictions.

The goal should be to achieve the kitchen of your dreams, not to get it done as quickly as possible.
