Assess Your Garage Door

The problem might lie with your garage door opener, or it might be another issue with your garage door. What you want to do first is to examine your garage door. Inspect and troubleshoot before looking at the motor.

You can start by lifting the garage door after pulling the emergency release cord. If the opening and closing are smooth, your problem might be on the tracks, rollers, or springs.

Also, check your remote, if it’s working, along with the wall switch. Examine the trolley carriage, the garage motor, and the circuit breaker further.

Check the photo-eye sensors, rails, chains, and other details if the problem persists. Be mindful of unusual sounds coming from your garage door. It might be one of the reasons why your door is not working.

If you have doubts about your skills on DIY projects, or you’re worried about your safety, you can always seek professional help.

How to Do Garage Door Repair

Let’s start repairing by getting the tools and putting on protective gear. If the problem is with the wall switch, tighten the wire connection or change the wires. If not, change the control altogether.

You can buy a new remote or change the batteries or the receiver for remote problems. If there’s a malfunction on the switch and door, try changing your sensors or re-aligning them.

But if the problem has no sound and light, fix the circuit board by getting a new one. Furthermore, change the trolley if doors are not opening, but trolley carriages do. Try adding lube to the screw rail and see if it will fix the problem.

If there’s unusual noise, check the garage opener and switch to a newer main gear drive. Another solution can be replacing the entire garage door opener. You can click for more options regarding this solution.

Moreover, if the problem is about the doors not opening at their greatest, tighten the chain. But if it does the opposite and won’t close, adjust the door.
