Consider the Door

If you search for door blind inspiration on the Internet, you might see several options to consider. The myriad of choices, however, might make it confusing for you to select the appropriate blinds.

This is because many homeowners, which might include you, tend to look at the blinds first before considering their doors.

In other words, think about your home’s entryways first before starting your search for the right treatments.

You should now see several door treatments fall under two major categories: blinds for French doors and sliding doors. Pick the wrong accessories for your door, and the entryway might lose some functionality.

Moreover, the wrong blinds might stand out like a sore thumb for their clashing design.

So, if you have French doors, take note of the entryway’s handles. Blinds with the wrong design or size might get in the way of these handles, causing difficulties in entering or exiting the premises.

Thus, outside-mounted blinds tend to work well for French doors. It’s because these pieces of décor won’t get in the way of the handles.

Furthermore, consider buying shallow blinds so these treatments will comfortably fit between the doors and their handles.

But, if you have sliding doors, you shouldn’t encounter the same problem with French doors. Note that sliding doors tend to have handles that are flush with their design.

Hence, the blinds you choose shouldn’t get in the way of the doors’ operation. Still, it doesn’t mean that every blind you see will complement sliding doors.

Ensure that you choose sliding door blinds that provide sufficient levels of light and privacy to rooms.

With that in mind, consider vertical blinds for your sliding doors. These options tend to have a slim yet contemporary appearance, making them ideal for modern homes.

Also, sliding doors tend to open vertically, so it’s safe to say that it pays to equip them with blinds that open in the same direction.

Consider the Location

Some decorations work well indoors found in specific rooms. For example, specific blinds might work better for the patio’s sliding doors than the entryway in the kitchen.

Therefore, don’t forget about the location of the door when selecting your blinds.

For instance, you want to add blinds to your sliding doors that open to your balcony. If so, consider equipping these entryways with retractable blinds.

These door treatments help put an aesthetically pleasing transition between the two locations. Installing these blinds is a method of landscaping the balcony that aids in maximizing space.

As a bonus, retractable balcony door blinds can offer protection in more ways than one. It can enhance privacy for your home, especially if you’re away on vacation.

Aside from the balcony, you may also consider putting blinds on your front door. Note that selecting front door blinds tend to pose unique challenges as these entryways may come in different shapes and sizes.

One option is to place wood or faux wood blinds on sidelight windows. Another consideration is to equip the built-in windows on your front door with aluminum blinds.

Consider talking to professionals if you find yourself having difficulties choosing the right door blinds because of the entryway’s location.

Getting expert assistance helps streamline the selection process. Some companies might even help with the blinds’ installation.

Consider the Size

Installing door blinds of the wrong size can promote problems. You might encounter one issue: the lack of privacy, particularly if the treatments you choose are smaller than the door’s size.

Conversely, select blinds that are significantly larger than the door, and you might have problems operating the treatments.

So, grab a pen, paper, and measuring tape to measure the door before deciding which blind to buy. Here are a few quick tips to help you measure your door correctly:

  • Measure the Width

Take three measurements for your door’s width. These measurements are the bottom, middle, and top of the door’s opening.

Then, take the largest width measured, and add a two- to four-inch allowance to optimize light coverage. Also, use the longest width measurement when ordering the coverings.

  • Measure the Height

Measure the door’s height from top to bottom. Start measuring from the headrail, which is about two to three inches above the door.

Then, take three height measurements, which will be on the left, middle, and right of the entryway. Use the longest height measurement when placing the order for the coverings.

The steps mentioned above tend to work with several door styles. But, the process might be different if you measure the height and width of French doors.

It’s because you need to consider other factors, such as the handles, hinges, and locks.

Don’t forget that you can consult professionals to help you choose the right blinds based on your doors’ dimensions.

Consider the Color

Color plays a vital role in your home’s visual appeal. With that said, ensure that your door blinds have colors that complement the property’s theme.

Consult the principles of color theory to help you choose an appropriate tone for the blinds you choose. Note that color theory is the study of the different hues and how to use those shades in harmony.

For instance, if you have a wooden door with a deep brown color, consider placing coverings in earth tones, like beige, orange, or dark green.

Consequently, a white door should go well with other relatively light colors, such as gray, sky blue, and pastel pink.

You can also use the color wheel to help you choose appropriately colored blinds that match your door’s and home’s design.

Conclusion

You must choose the correct blinds that match the design of the door and your home. Don’t forget to think about the door’s style, size, and location during your search for the right coverings.

Also, ensure that the treatments you choose and your home’s theme match. Take the time researching, and you should select door blinds that are both stylish and functional.
