It is easy to select a house in Canada from but it is difficult to choose the interior decoration for your home. So let’s discuss the 10 interior decoration styles.

Nordic Style

image - Nordic Style

It is a style and decoration trend that has prevailed for years: luminosity, light colors and elements related to nature steal all the limelight.

History and Context

Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark are credited with gaining popularity in the 20th-century style of Nordic interior decorating, and still remaining a trend.

Because there is little natural light in these countries for most of the year, the concept arose.

It became a technique to compensate for the lack of light, which is why the colors utilized are light.

Characteristics and Elements

The main resource for Nordic decoration is nature which is why the furniture is made of wood.

Natural textiles, such as linen, cotton, or wool, are used for the pillows and curtains.

Floral patterns predominate in the style of interior decoration, and there has been an evolution towards stripes and squares.

The furniture has a particular look thanks to its simplicity and straight lines blended with soft curves.

Scandinavian Style

Among the decoration styles, the Scandinavian (hygge) stands out for its clear spaces and minimalism.

White is the predominant color; the ceiling, floor, walls, and furniture with the same tone. The goal is to spread calm, simplicity, and tranquility.

History and context

The long winters of northern Europe gave way to decorating styles such as Scandinavian.

The need to bring light to the interior of the home took over in the 20th century. Today it is still alive and has spread throughout the world.

Characteristics and elements

The elements made of light-colored woods (white, beige, and gray) stand out, which are combined with metals, stones, and natural fibers.

Modern vintage style furniture steals the spotlight in interior decoration with the Scandinavian formula.

Rustic Style

Rustic design styles evoke country dwellings because they bring peace, well-being, and comfort to those who live in them.

History and context

The rustic style was born from the need not to let the traditional die that is why many houses for the holidays are decorated with this trend.

Since the 20th century, this decoration originated in various parts of the world.

As a result, each country’s modern rustic interior design may differ.

Characteristics and elements

Rustic decorating styles include stone or hardwood floors. The colors selected are warm since the spaces are chilly and bright.

Rustic styles are unique in that they make use of a wide range of natural materials.

The essentials are wood, stone, clay, and wicker and, in many cases, spaces full of harmony are achieved thanks to ceramics. Regarding fabrics, the favorites are linen and cotton.

Bohemian Style

Bohemian home design styles exude a sense of liberation, joy, and liveliness.  They provide for a wide range of warm and brilliant color combinations.

Yellow, orange, and red predominate, making them easy to spot. They are modern houses with hippie, antique, and gypsy fashion in mind.

If “less is more” in the minimalist world, “more is more” in the bohemian world.

History and Context

It was born from the need for a current to give value to life, to connect man with nature, and enjoy in a more relaxed way.

In houses with bohemian interior style, a fair value is given to the old and the natural.

Characteristics and Elements

The furniture practically disappears from the rooms; instead, pouffes, cushions, and rugs are placed.

It is a diverse and inexpensive type of decoration because much of what is used can be bought at garage sales, fairs, and markets.

Everything has the potential for a second opportunity.

Natural materials like wood, wicker, and rattan work well in bohemian settings.

Retro or Vintage Style

It is a way to evoke the best of the decades from the 30s to the 80s, where the classic and the romantic prevail.

Very light colors are used; white is the one chosen in most types of decoration related to the old.

History and Context

As soon as modern spaces became popular, vintage decoration for your home was also born, because many people refused to put aside the best of the bygone eras.

This is how this movement arose, which since 2010 has gained strength.

Characteristics and Elements

Depending on the period you want to evoke, the materials will differ. In most cases, restored furniture sets the tone.

It is interesting that in the interior decoration of vintage-style houses you can hardly find two alike since they are unique pieces.

Nautical or Navy Style

The colors that cannot be absent are royal blue and white, much better if it is with vertical stripes. A red or gold accent adds the finishing touch.

History and Context

Tourism gave way to decoration with a nautical or navy style, where fresh colors and everything related to sailors prevails.

In Latin American countries, beach houses with navy decorative styles are a strong trend, and the same happens in European cities, where this fashion has migrated very easily.

Characteristics and Elements

The presence of rustic wooden furniture in navy home design schemes is unavoidable. Details like miniature boats, starfish, shells, anchors, life jackets, and everything related to beach life add a distinctive touch.

Textile resources where thick stripes with blue and white predominate are widely used in the decoration of modern and elegant houses, to give the feeling that you are living on the beach.

Renovated Classic or Modern Classic Style

There are many types of styles for modern and elegant home decoration, but only one strikes a perfect balance between classic and modern: the renewed style.

It has an attractive, opulent, and sophisticated appearance.

It is not distant from present interior design trends, but it also keeps the most important aspects of previous eras. White and cream colors predominate.

History and Context

This is a relatively new trend that has gradually gained ground, as the classic has evolved into the more contemporary.

Traditional forms, such as moldings on the walls, are maintained, and many designers turn to restore furniture styles to add that modern touch.

Characteristics and Elements

The most used materials are noble wood and natural elements that form an important context; when accompanied by stone and marble, it is the perfect combination for a cozy and modern environment.

Using glass accents will further enhance the room’s style.

The moldings on the walls, the borders, and the wallpaper are very used in a modern, renovated, and classic style house.

In the fabrics, cotton and linen are used with prints in stripes, squares, and elements alluding to nature.

Simple taps in the bathrooms and relatively neutral colors in the kitchen are fairly frequent in these homes.

Industrial Style

Modern, sober, and urban room styles are industrial-type decorations, also known as urban style. Rustic meets elegant to create magnificent rooms.

History and Context

The origin of this type of decoration lies in the industries.

The story goes that young New Yorkers in the 1950s lived in factories where beams, bricks, and concrete were plentiful.

This is how this style was adopted, and today interior designers are inclined towards this trend.

Characteristics and Elements

Furniture used in industrial home decorating styles is made of wrought iron. They show up with a little rust.

Untreated woods and veneers are also used. If the pipes and pipes can be seen, so much the better.
