Staged to Sell The Dos and Don’ts of Updating Interior Decor Before Selling Your House

If you’re thinking of staging your home for sale, then you probably have a lot of questions about how to pull it off. We’re here to help! Read on for some important dos and don’ts of interior design.

Do Go for a Cohesive Design

Good interior design flows from room to room. That doesn’t mean that everyone room needs to have the same colour scheme and decor choices, but they should feel like part of a larger, more cohesive design.

Hire a company like We Painted It to help you paint your home in varying shades of complementary colours. Then choose a theme with which to decorate the rooms in your house. Think Italian countryside or mid-century modern.

When it comes to design, less is more. You want it to be enough for buyers to be able to picture themselves there, but not so much that it looks too packed or small.

Don’t Leave Personal Photos Up

Leaving up personal photographs is a big no-no when it comes to home staging.

Why?

It’s hard to picture yourself living in a house when it feels like someone else’s home. Your buyers may know that someone already lives in the home, but you want to make it easier for the buyer to suspend that knowledge while they’re touring the home.

Move personal photographs to your new home if you have one already. If you don’t, then consider packing them up in anticipation of your move.

Do Use Neutral Colors

Everyone has a different style of preference. You might love bright and lively colours, but your buyers might not like them at all.

Paint is one of the easiest things to change in a home, but if you leave your walls a colour a buyer doesn’t like, then they won’t be able to see themselves living there.

Opt for neutral colours that work with the overall style of your home. That will keep buyers from turning your house down just because of the paint!

Don’t Leave Closets Cluttered

You know your house can’t be cluttered when buyers come to tour, so what do you do with all of your excess stuff?

You might be tempted to tuck it all away in your closet, but you actually don’t want to do that. Don’t forget that buyers check out every nook and cranny of the house, and closets are valuable space!

Make sure that every square inch of your home is free from clutter.

If you don’t know what to do with excess items, consider donating them or placing them in a temporary storage space off-site.

Want More Interior Decor Tips?

Selling your home, particularly in buyer’s markets, can feel like an insurmountable task. If you want to boost your odds of sale, then you need to consider staging your home for sale. A little interior decor change can make a huge difference!
