Did you know 82% of agents say home staging helps home buyers visualize a new property as a home? This makes good home interior design an important factor in selling your house.

Even if you’re not selling your home, decorating can help make your living space feel more comfortable and beautiful. You can start by learning how to arrange pillows on a couch.

However, it’s not as simple as throwing any random pillow on your couch. There is order to the chaos. To learn how to create a beautiful visual stage with your couch and pillows, check out these tips below:

Pick a Base

The first step is to pick a base. Your choice will be the foundation for the rest of your interior home decor design.

It’s always safe to start with throw pillows placed at the edges of your couch, right by the armrests. Get the biggest ones possible. Every other pillow will go in front of them.

Your base also sets the tone in terms of colors and style. Even if you’ll use a variety of colors, textures, and patterns, they all have to synchronize well with your base pillows.

Limit Your Colors

Do you have a pastel beige couch? Don’t pick pillows of any random color. Take a moment to look at a color wheel to find complementary choices.

Limit your choices to three to five colors. Too few and your couch and pillows will look a little dull. Too many and it’ll appear out of sync.

There is an exception to the rule. If you’re going for a monochrome design, you can stick with black and white. If you want to push for one more color, add a touch of grey.

Different Shapes and Sizes

Sometimes the best throw pillows aren’t traditional square ones. Try out round pillows, irregular pillows, and smaller lumbar pillows. Don’t hesitate to check Harmony House for a wide range of choices that come in all shapes and sizes.

Place the largest pillows first. These are your base pillows. Layer the next ones in front and between, providing variety and visual complexity.

If you’ll break the rule of balanced design, opting for an asymmetrical style, use an extra-large pillow. This serves as a visual anchor to draw attention.

Don’t Fear Textures and Patterns

Beautiful home decor doesn’t have to appear plain and boring. While most modern designs prioritize a sleek and minimalist style, you shouldn’t steer completely away from pillows with texture and patterns. It’s all a matter of complementing one with the other.

Experiment with fur pillows, knit covers, and loud patterns. If you’ll use pillows with lots of lines and colors, refer back to our tip of checking a color wheel.

Now You Know How to Arrange Pillows on a Couch

Learning how to arrange pillows on a couch isn’t too difficult once you know the basics. Choose a base wisely, play with different sizes and shapes, and pick colors accordingly. Don’t fear introducing textures and patterns to make your couch’s appearance pop.
