1. Difficult to Open

Well, it should be pretty easy, smooth, and quick to open your sliding door.

However, if it takes more effort dragging your door than you should, or it gets stuck altogether, it is a clear sign your door has issues and need attention. These doors may become hard to open due to several problems that may include:

Bent Tracks

Your door might have bent metal that might impede its movement. If the tracks bend inward, it will pinch the rollers and stop the door from moving. On the other hand, outward bent tracks can derail your door.

Dirty Door Rollers

These are components of sliding doors that enable them to open easily. Your door may experience difficulties opening when the rollers are filled with dirt.

However, you can clear dirt by using a vacuum, crevice tool, and a wet cloth. However, if your door still has difficulties opening, you can contact a reputable company for repair or replacement.

2. Glass Panes Trap Moisture

It is normal for moisture to get trapped on the glass’s exterior, but it might be a red flag if it seeps in between the panes. It might mean the internal seal is broken and inert gas leaks out. If so, your glass door may no longer be insulated.

Still, you may consider window replacement or repair to improve home insulation.

Moisture could also have other adverse effects on your door’s aesthetic since your glass will remain foggy. Additionally, it can cause mold growth, among other deteriorations.

It is thus important you act immediately before the problem becomes widespread. Still, at some point, you may need to replace your glass door to eliminate condensation issues.

3. Making Noises

Should your glass door make noise when you open them?

Well, your glass door shouldn’t make noise when opening them. Thus, if your door squeaks or produces a shutting sound, it may be a sign of obstruction on the door track.

Noise from your sliding door may also mean the rollers need lubrication. Thus, you need to first vacuum or wipe off the track. Then, apply silicone-based spray lubricant on the track and rollers.

If the problem persists, the door might have a mechanical problem and may need replacement.

4. Hot or Cold Drafts

Sliding glass doors are supposed to aid in energy efficiency. Thus, it should provide proper insulation to your indoors. If your patio door has warped or lacks enough weather-stripping, you may start to notice pockets of either cold or hot air around it.

If by any chance hot or cold air penetrates to your home through your glass door. It could be a solid sign of a problem with its seal.

Drafty glass doors are a nuisance; they will cause an increase in energy bills due to wastage of energy. Also, the surrounding space can get uncomfortable during the hot and cold seasons.

Loose seals can also allow bugs and pests into your home; thus, you must consider a repair right away if you have such door problems.

5. Damaged Frame

The patio door’s frame may be damaged due to impact incidence. For instance, a hailstorm or any other force impact.

Also, patio doors may be susceptible to damage since they are the first entry point or exit to your home. Thus, it may have its fair share of scrapes, cracks, or even bumps over time.

Such damage will open your home to all sorts of destructive elements.

Since sliding doors are bound to degrade over time, it is essential to weigh what is cost-effective in the long run; repair or replacement.

6. Rollers Misalignment

It can happen when you are pulling your patio door.

Rollers can misalign themselves from the door’s track, and your door will be out of alignment. This issue will cause your door to become tough to open or close until the problem is fixed.

Roller may also move out of alignment if the track is bent. Bent tracks mean they are either curved inward or outwards or thus preventing the door from moving smoothly.

Roller misalignment may require an inspection to determine whether to door need repair or replacement.

7. Aesthetic Degradation

Like any other part of your home, your doors should look great and compliment the overall appearance of your home exterior.

However, doors will ultimately get scratches, and paint will get chipped. Your glass doors will also get outdated and thus feel out of place.

Thus, you need to maintain the aesthetic of your home by refinishing your doors to fix issues. However, if re-painting doesn’t bring the freshness you want, consider replacing them all together to get a modern touch.
