8 Things You Can Expect When Moving to Texas

You should consider the pros and cons if you’re giving the Lone Star State a serious look in 2023. Before looking at new homes in Aubrey, check out the list we’ve compiled.

Here are eight things you can expect if you move to Texas, where the stars are big and bright.

There’s Great Food

Foodies love Texas, and with good reason. It is a major BBQ state, and some say they do it better there than anywhere else.

You can get some hot links, pulled pork, brisket, or just about any other BBQ item you love. You might gain a few pounds, though, so perhaps abandoning your diet plans is the right idea before moving there.

There’s Some Major Traffic in the Cities

If you move to Texas, you might prefer a small community like Victoria. You can also move to Dallas, San Antonio, or Houston.

If you move to one of the larger Texas cities, expect constant traffic. If you drive, sitting in traffic jams on your way to work might happen. Smaller communities may be more your style if this bothers you.

Diversity is There to Stay

You will find all ethnicities in Texas. Mexicans are everywhere, as are Cubans and Dominicans.

You can find African-American communities, Caucasian ones, and Asians as well. For the most part, everyone gets along. Racist incidents are not impossible, though.

It’s Hot

Warm weather is a fact of life in Texas. The summers are hot, but you can get sweltering temperatures year-round in some parts of the state. Get ready to use a lot of sunblocks, and ensure you get a house or apartment with central air.

The Job Market is Booming

You can work in IT in Texas. You will also find food service jobs, construction jobs, careers in education, and many more. Oil and energy are probably the sectors that are hiring the most right now, though.

The Tax Breaks Might Appeal

Texas does not have as high of a tax burden as some other US states. You pay no state income taxes, which makes a huge difference. The state also rewards military veterans with tax breaks.

Texas Has Energy Deregulation

In Texas, you’ll often pay less for oil, electricity, and gas. In most parts of the state, you can choose your own energy supplier.

Of course, the power grid can sometimes fail, and there seems to be no hurry to fix that problem. Power grid failures in the winter can prove dangerous sometimes.

It’s Politically Diverse

Texas is definitely a red state if you look at the most recent elections, but you’ll find both liberals and conservatives there. Many times, the liberals like the larger cities, while smaller communities tend to favor more conservative voting.

Texas might be the place for you if you like what you’re hearing. Consider what we’ve mentioned before committing to moving there.
